Kabul/Berlin - Germany's biggest military offensive in northern Afghanistan to date is set to continue, as fresh clash in the region left four Taliban fighters dead, officials said Saturday. Taliban militants ambushed an Afghan security forces in Esakhail, an area in south-eastern part of Kunduz city, the capital for the province of the same name on Saturday morning, sparking a fierce gun-battle with forces, Murad Ali Murad, an army commander in northern region told German Press Agency dpa.

"According to our information four Taliban were killed and a number of them were wounded," he said, adding that there were no casualties among government forces.

Four Afghan army soldiers had been killed in the operation, as well as 13 Taliban insurgents, the Afghan defence ministry said on Thursday.

Mohammad Omar, provincial governor of the northern province of Kunduz where the operation is taking place, said the offensive had cleared Chardarah district of Taliban and al-Qaeda forces.

Meanwhile, German defence ministry said in Berlin that its troops' biggest military offensive against the insurgents to date would continue. The ministry said no German soldiers had been injured in the deployment which began last week, involving some 300 members of the Bundeswehr's Quick Reaction Force.

1. "Quick Reaction Force"
Hm.. A fast moving tactical force to clear out enemies and gain control. Them Germans should come up with some catchy name for that type of warfare.

4. What's the German word for cannon-fodder?
Fortunately, the German people regard their involvement in Afghanistan with revulsion. Unlike, the apologists for our venture into Neo-Lib colonialism.

7. "Germany's biggest military offensive in Afghanistan to date"?
I can't say Germany has had a sizable military offensive anywhere...since the Battle of the Bulge.
