She does work for a Democratic think tank, though I don't know on what elements of healthcare. However, she lives in NC, not DC - and I think that is what she wants.
In addition, Maddow, like others, inflated her credentials by saying that she has worked on health care for decades - when 5 years is more accurate. (She even claimed in her Saving Graces book to not have known the Kerry/Edwards healthcare policy. If she was interested in the policy, she could have been briefed to her heart's desire by the Kerry expert or she simply could have read it on the website. She also in the past has distorted JRE's 2004 position, which was the MOST CONSERVATIVE of the 2004 candidates. JRE often attacked Kerry and Dean for their near universal policies.)
She is far better advocating for the need for affordable healthcare than she is on policy specifics. When she went to details, she made mistakes. She spoke of HELP being the committee in the Senate that does health and said they were in the process of marking up a bill. In fact, they already marked it up and voted it out of committee last week. It also ignores that the Finance committee also has jurisdiction over any tax related or medicare related elements. They are the committee that is still searching for solutions - and the problem is that their Democratic membership is heavy with more conservative members.
