"Angela's Ashes" author Frank McCourt gravely ill, brother says
Frank McCourt is gravely ill with meningitis and is unlikely to survive, the author's brother in New York says.

Malachy McCourt says that his 78-year-old brother, best known for the million-selling "Angela's Ashes," is in a New York hospice, "his faculties shutting down."

"He is not expected to live," says McCourt, himself an author and performer.

Frank McCourt was recently treated for melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, but his brother says he had been doing well until about two weeks ago, when he contracted meningitis.

2. Oh no!
This is such sad news! I loved "Angela's Ashes", and put it on all the recommended reading lists for my college classes. McCourt told his life story with candor, humor, and hope - without which the story would have been almost too painful to bear. I hope whatever god may be keeps him in his/her care. Godspeed, Frank. Your work in this life was well done.

6. Sounds like a compelling novel. But, I don't think I could
read it during these trying times. Peace be with you, Frank.
