We need to rework the lyrics to "Girl From Ipanema" to help out the songsters among us.
GIRL FROM IPANEMA
(Vinicius DeMoraes / Norman Gimbel / Tom Jobim)

Tall and tanned and young and lovely
the girl from Ipanema goes walking
and when she passes
each man she passes
goes Aaah!

When she moves it's like a samba
that swings so cool and sways so gently
that when she passes
each man she passes
goes Aaah!

Oh - but he watches so sadly
How - can he tell her he loves her
He - would just give his heart gladly

But each day when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead not at he

Tall and tanned and young and lovely
the girl from Ipanema goes walking
and when she passes
he smiles
but she doesn't see
no she doesn't see
she just doesn't see...

I know. It's in Brazil. But we're in America. To far too many of us, South America is a big country south of Mexico filled with Spanish-speaking poor people who eke out a living by growing marijuana and cocaine.

Anyway, When I first heard of Argentina and affairs, a song popped into my mind. "Girl From Ipanema"

I know it's all wrong, but I am an American fully exposed to the culture. So, when I think of Gov. Sanford, my mind starts playing "Girl From Ipanema"

When I heard her name, my mental jukebox added a second tune, "Maria" from West Side Story.

But that's another story.

For now, I'm working on fixing the lyrics to Girl.

Give me a hand here ...

Tall and tan-lined, young and lovely
the girl from Argentina goes walking
and when she passes
each man she passes
goes ... Aaah!

3. I DON'T listen to Pigboy.
Well aware of the language and cultural differences. But THAT'S the song that started playing in my mind. I don't think I'm alone.

The OP is based on that initial reaction.

5. Really?
That's what you thought of when you heard that story?

That's pretty amazing, because - while I don't listen to him, either - I did read a transcript where Rush referred to "the girl from Ipanema" once or twice.

I'm sure you're very well versed in matters geographic and cultural. I'm sure you know all about the differences between the two countries. I don't know anyone else who would ever think of that song when speaking of Argentina.

But, using that song is sort of like using "Girl From The North Country" for a bar mitzvah in Tel Aviv, if you know what I mean.

In any event, enjoy!

7. You read a transcript. OK. "Girl from Ipanema" is now verboten because Limbaugh mentioned it?
How fucked up is that?

I'm a bit slow. OK. But you already know that.

I apologize for not reading the same transcript. And I apologize in advance for not reading some of the stuff you'll read tomorrow.

BTW, Will Pitt has a thread in GDP. It's easy to find. Same title as the forbidden song.

Thanks.

8. My goodness,
this is off-the-wall, suggesting something far beyond "The Girl From Ipanema."

No, the song has nothing to do with Argentina. That Rush mentioned it is just further proof - although none was needed - of his stupidity.

As for implying that you are "a bit slow," I never did that, and you're inferring something that isn't there.

Issues. Yours. Who needs that crap?

Not I.

As I said before: Enjoy!

6. I'll bet Sanford is thinking more along the lines of "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" n/m
