Enough of Sarah Palin, the victim
Debra J. Saunders
Tuesday, June 16, 2009

I wish Sarah Palin would just go away.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, I wrote about the unfair personal treatment to which the political press corps subjected Palin and her children. Now I just want her to stop milking her role as GOP martyr. Palin should stick to her day job - by which I mean, governing Alaska, not being fodder for talk-show humor.

Both parties have their umbrage industries - thanks to true believers, who love nothing better than to see themselves as victims of a perceived double standard. Last week, comedian David Letterman's two off-color jokes about a Palin family trip to New York led to an orgy of indignation.

snip:

Now there's a firedavidletterman.com Web site and a planned protest outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City today. If anyone thinks these antics will help Palin in the 2012 GOP primary, guess again. These stories don't tell voters that Palin has the smartest energy policy or that she's been a more successful governor than California's Arnold Schwarzenegger - they tell voters that Palin's life is a nonstop soap opera.

Whole article:

Even the Right wingers are turning on the Palin act- Saunders is a pretty conservative op ed writer......

1. Let her play victim all she wants.
If she thinks that is the route to election.

Let the conservatives whine and rave.
Welcome to 1964, GOP.

3. i must say i am torn. i want palin to just go away, but if she actually did that
and let people forget about her and built herself back up with a better image, she may be more formidable in 2012. So part of me wants her to stay out there so that she can just become more of a joke than she already is. And one wonders if she even realizes how much of a joke she's become. Which is actually kind of sad, because women like her sell themselves into this idea of a party that would sooner throw her under the bus as look at her.

If she were smart, which she has obviously proven herself not to be, she would have just gone back to alaska and been the best governor ever and kept her head down for awhile. Let the dust clear and then educate herself before she comes back out in the open again. To her benefit people have a short memory, unfortunately she doesn't seem to want to let that be an asset for her.

4. Sarah Palin claims some stupid joke harms her daughter
Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 08:50 AM by niceypoo
So she plasters it all over the media for days and days and days on end, putting fictitious, salacious, sleazy, non existent meanings on it for political gain, and intentionally, wrongly pinning it on her 14 year old daughter.

Sarah Palin you harm your family more than anyone else ever could and you do it intentionally for personal 'gain' (though all you really accomplish is making yourself look like a moron).

Palin Gingrich, 2012!

6. Letterman's comments harmed all our daughters, and mothers
and grandmothers. Yes, they did and he was wrong.

11. And Sarah Palin's Whoring Out Of Her Kids......

.....during the entire course of her national political career, hasn't done more harm? Get a grip, accept Dave's groveling apology, and move the hell on.....

Palin is whoring out her children for political gain. Apparently this is OK in your book.

13. Oh bullshit
He isn't the first to crack jokes about Bible Spice and her spawn and certainly won't be the last. Bible Spice just wants attention -- this happened when the big story was Newt speaking at the fundraiser and not her. Stories were circulating about her antics and she needed to deflect. Sarah Palin herself with her moronic comments, circular logic, and blatant stupidity does more to degrade women than a late night comedian. Get a grip.

16. And if ever, god forbid, given the chance, Palin's policies would harm
all of our daughters, mothers and grandmothers.

Yes, they would and they are wrong.

But thank god, besides the 20% of dead-enders who are hate-filled and stupid enough to support the grifting, know-nothing Governor Bible Spice, I think we are pretty safe from the complete disaster she would be as a national leader.

She can stick to picking fights with late night comedians and continue to debase her image.

18. i know I've been damaged beyond repair
I thought it was bad when Palin first came on the scene and men I work with started asking me why I wasn't wearing short skirts with 5" heels, but now...man.

Now they all want you in daisy dukes and red sandals or nothin'.

Some part of me wonders when Palin will apologize for smearing Letterman as a pedophile and rapist, and admit that her daughter is 15 and a half and not 14...a lie which she must have thought made the knife even sharper, but as we all knew he was referring to the actually knocked up daughter, it was irrelevant to me how old Willow was. Until the governor lied about it.

19. That should be "sobsisters 6", I think.
Palin's harmed our (real) sisters with her false pose as a "Strong Female(tm)".

If you're going to shill, at least stop the whiny melodrama.

22. And The Protesters Referred To Letterman's 5-Year Old Son As A Bastard.

Got any outrage left for a comment like that? No, I didn't think so......

It boggles the mind that a handful of Democrats are buying into the faux outrage being generated by the right.

9. Parker and Noonan haven't had much nice to say about Palin for some time
and have drawn the wrath of the Palin brigade as a result.

Palin's draw is due exclusively to her looks. If she looked more like Eleanor Roosevelt she wouldn't have even been on McCain's radar last year.
