6. Michelle's garden leaves the free world vulnerable to attack by
jihadists and to extremist occult groups who would lure our children away with books and ideas and teach them mysterious disciplines involving gemstones and cave fish.

We're packing to move to Ireland right now.

19. Build an above-ground box.
It is fairly simple. I made a 16' x 4' x 1' box this spring and it is OVERFLOWING with spinach, lettuce, herbs, and peas. We already pulled all the radishes before planting the herbs and I've had to give away several heads of lettuce.

You could work with simple 4x4x1 boxes and make several. I just use good quality pine board (NEVER USE TREATED LUMBER), but if you want to spend a little more you'll get a longer life out of cedar. Pine's usually good for 10 years or more and I'm happy with that. I ran 2x2's around the top for support (and to keep it straight) and 2x4's down the corners. For a 4x4 you could just use 2x2's for the corners. Extend the corners about 2" below the side boards for drainage. Put it together with decking screws. It is best to pre-drill through the side into the leg. For added support, simple L-brackets around the top and bottom of the corners will help keep it together.

I got screened top soil delivered from a local garden center and added a little bit of backed humus to the top. The only other thing I added was some organic fertilizer.

You would be amazed at how much you can cram into a 4'x4' growing space!

26. I bet something that even just half that size would still be worthwhile.
My life is kind of a mess right now; when I know if I can keep my house, I will do something about a place to grow some food.

23. I 'voted' for the pot, but I love that garden!
I fully support that garden! This is one thing that the Obamas have done that makes me happy, and would have pleased my late father to an unimaginable extent. A wonderful example to set, and in this age of fake food and industrial farming, that garden makes a strong statement that I am glad to see being made.
I'm outraged that there has not been a garden there all along! I give the First Lady giant gold stars for planting it, for talking about it, and for making it organic. I hope many people pattern after her and say "food not lawns, grow, don't mow!"
