"Palin issued a statement after the broadcast Tuesday, accepting the late night host's apology"
Palin issued a statement after the broadcast early Tuesday, saying she accepted the late night host's apology.

"Of course it's accepted on behalf of young women, like my daughters, who hope men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve," she said.

"Letterman certainly has the right to 'joke' about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction," Palin said. "This is all thanks to our U.S. Military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's Right to Free Speech - in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect."

Letterman's mea culpa comes on the heels of New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb's calls to the CEO of CBS to fire David Letterman. In the letter to CBS chief Les Moonves, Kolb said he took Letterman to task for the "shockingly inappropriate" jokes.

5. Oh, bite me, Palin............
You exercised your fucking right to free speech time and again when you ranted about Obama "pallin' around with terrorists."

You weren't hesitant to appear on SNL, which mercilessly mocked your fucking trashy family.

All the late-night comics made fun of your pregnant daughter and your hopelessly fucked-up brood.

And when you're ignored and not invited to speech at a GOPig fundraiser, right after you've been caught plagiarizing Newt Gingrich, and you're hungry for attention, you decide to take umbrage at a joke Letterman made about you.

Go fuck yourself.

Your comment, when told he made a joke about you shopping at Bloomingdale's for your "slutty flight attendant makeup," was that you hadn't even been in Bloomingdale's.

(You are too goddamned thick to draw breath without a coach.)

So it's OK to call you slutty, but you're all up in arms when a joke is made about your already-knocked-up kid?

Fuck you, you hopeless harpy. You truly are dumber than a box of old hair, and after refusing to answer when Katie Couric asked you if you were a feminist - probably because you're not sure what a feminist is - now you're a big fucking champion of the rights of young women. Too bad your expansiveness doesn't extend to your fucking state picking up the tab for rape victims' rape kits in your state.

Will you just go the hell away and fucking shut up? You're dumber and dumber every time you venture out, and you're so fucking stupid, you took on David Letterman.

Didn't you learn anything from John McCain?

You make me ashamed of my genitalia, you wanton fuck.........................

12. I'm furious, just furious,
as you probably can tell from my rant. I'm so angry, I even wrote to Letterman, commending him on his apology, reminding him that he did nothing wrong, but was dealing with an attention whore who would probably start jumping out of the helicopters and strangling the moose with her bare hands, just to get publicity.

What really steams me is the bullshit that women have bought into about how Dave really dissed young women. He dissed my ass, as my old Italian grandmother used to say. He did no such thing, but he was a class act with that apology, which has now shut her down. But, the women who sided with The Shrew Palin astonished me. I mean, I love my sisters, and I was in on all the feminist stuff when it began in the sixties, and I did really cool stuff like getting into law school when women weren't welcome there, and then I see females swapping their brains for a good case of faked outrage at that joke.

And the joke was funny.

I've been a member of NOW since it began, and a generous contributor. But today, when I found out that NOW was siding with Palin, I shot off a letter to the Executive Director, telling her to strike my name from the membership rolls, and assuring her that they'll never see one red cent from me again. There is such a thing as sitting back, assessing the situation, and thinking clearly.

Letterman did nothing wrong. This PC bullshit has gone too far, and a bit of good, old-fashioned sanity is called for. Sarah Palin is hardly a role model for young women, and she's not even a good mother. First kid gets a choice between joining the military or going to the slammer, second kid gets herself knocked up because her goddamned mother was too busy NOT teaching her about birth control because, you know, they're a GOOD CHRISTIAN FAMILY.

So the kid has a kid, no wedding, no spouse, nothing that a GOOD CHRISTIAN GIRL would do, but, hey, at least she didn't use birth control.

Fucking moron has just gone too far this time. The position that NOW took was the final straw for me. When I watch women go so fucking stupid and non-thinking, it just pisses me off. I'm tired of watching women blame men for shit that's not even legitimate and let other women get off with behavior that blows chunks. Any woman who sided with Palin in this one doesn't have a sense of humor or a clue.

I'm tired of women making absolute goddamned fools of themselves, and watching this propping up of The Shrew Palin's phony outrage with their own idiotic outrage is more than I can bear.

It's after 3 a.m. here, and look what I'm doing.

And your daughter is absolutely right on. Take a bow for having raised a smart girl......................................

14. *EVERY* Palin story is typical National Enquirer fodder, at best.
It is often closer to Maury Povich or Jerry Springer fodder.

The more she does this, the nore unsupportive is the serious money in the Repubican party.

In times past, she would have been cheating old ladies out of inheritances. Or running a shell game on street corners.

The movie "Grifters" could be fully cast from her family.

68. She didn't understand constitutional free speech during the campaign
and apparently she hasn't yet studied up on it. This was explained about a zillion fucking times to this bitch during the election and there is nothing that will dissuade her from reading the Constitution to say what she'd like it to say for her own purposes - like those expanded powers of the vice presidency that she pulled from thin air and shocked everyone with during the campaign. Also much like how she pretended that this joke was about "willow" when Lettermen meant the already underage knocked up daughter Bristol (given Bristol's shennigans, I can't even imagine why anyone would think Willow, except to promote their own agenda. It was Todd, btw, who mentioned "raping my daughter Willow", which says much to me about the gutter in which he lives). When you argue with Sarah Palin, you just argue about made up stuff.

Dear Sarah -

Here is what the Constitution has to say about free speech:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Sarah, please explain what this has to do with things you say or things Letterman says or what our military is "fighting for"? Hint: your answer won't need to be more than one word in length.

26. Maybe because this time it looked like a genuine apology
As Letterman said yesterday: "The joke, in and of itself, cannot be defended".

So it turns out that Dave agrees with me that his attempted "knocked up" joke was indefensible.

See the thread I started here yesterday which has received over 60 recommends.

That must be disappointing for those of you who have been defending the so-called "joke" over the past few days.

46. I laughed at the joke,
and I've laughed even harder at the clueless ninnies who didn't get it and who followed The Shrew Palin right out the window as the woman who refused to identify herself as a feminist when asked by Katie Couric suddenly became a defender of the sanctity of young women's hymens.

Of course, The Shrew Palin didn't object when the joke was made on late night TV about her daughter's "box" at a hockey game. No, that was all right.

Hypocrisy abounds, and it's getting funnier than the original "knock-up" joke.

You know, if Dave hadn't used the phrase "knocked-up," the joke wouldn't have been as funny because reality is always funnier than fiction, and Bristol was knocked -up.

Good one...........................

Dave's original, dismissive apology is what Palin's phony hyperbolic response to the jokes deserved. But some people just had to make Palin a martyr to gender equality issues, which is like giving Jeff Dahmer a cooking show.

this has nothing to do with the joke and everything to do with Sarah Palin. This is how the woman operates, it's how she's operated in Alaska for as long as she's been in politics. Nothing is ever her fault, she is always the victim, and if she can do anything to punish her accusers she will. We here in Alaska have seen this "play" over and over and over again. If Sarah were so concerned with "all" young girls being victimized, she would take more concrete measures to deal with Alaska's horrendous rate of rape and child sexual abuse. Instead what she chose to do was fire the man (former DPS commissioner Walt Monegan) who was actually trying to do something about it.

She doesn't care one whit about the real issue here -- all she cares about is promoting herself.

... his right to say it is.

27. And Now The Circle Jerk Has Been Squared...
So what have we learned or accomplished here? We've learned that the Palin continue to exploit their children for their own political aims and don't care how they do it. We've learned, not that we didn't know this, how hypocritical Palin's "defenders" are for crying sexism in a party that thrives on it. Palin didn't reach "the top" of that corrupt party because of her intelect or experience...it was her "wink" and "sex appeal" that got the freepers and wingnuts all in a tizzy. Call it a high school crush.

As I've said before and worth pointing out one last time...the longer the story about the Palin is about their personal lives, the less of a serious political candidate she becomes...just another corporate media freak show.

29. Common sense made a slight visit to Morning Joe today re: this apology.
Joe basically said that Palin should have stopped with "I accept Letterman's apology". I

Joe then went on to slam her long-running habit of not knowing when to stop talking and that the reference to the military was totally incomprehensible and the attempts to equivalate the joke to the plight of all women was cheap political opportunism at it's most brazen.

Joe's a tool but even he knows that Palin's only hope for political relevance beyond Alaska requires that she remove herself from the national arena, focus on her job and hunker down and get more nuanced knowledge on various issues.

Of course, the only one to really stick up for Palin was Mika who now seems to have decided her role on the show is to be the aggrieved professional woman POV.

50. Joe surprises me at times especially re: Palin
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 12:43 PM by Mike Daniels
He's one of very few right-wingers with a media forum who will openly state that Palin is completely unqualified to run for president given her current situation.

His advice for Palin (for what it's worth) basically comes down to quit picking fights with late-night show hosts, go home and get off the national stage, focus on your current job, bone up on topics/issues relevant to the lower 48 and become more nuanced on those issues.

However, my impression is that Palin's strategy will basically come down to flirting her way through the primaries and occasionally getting up on her cross of victimhood.

away if her name wasn't mentioned on the national stage frequently..she'd wither on the tundra..and maybe just maybe Letterman is getting that message.

"Top 10 Reasons Sarah Palin's 'Outrage' is Misplaced and a Little Late"

I posted this as a reply in another thread but it was suggested that I give it its own OP. This is from Shannyn Moore http://shannynmoore.wordpress.com/2009/06/14/top-10-rea ... /

10) Last September, a skit on Saturday Night Live suggested incest in the Palin family. “What about the husband?” asked a mock Times reporter. “You know he’s doing those daughters. I mean, come on. It’s Alaska!” No outrage. Sarah Palin appeared on the show one month later in late October.

9) Days after the announcement of Bristol’s pregnancy, Conan O’Brien joked, “It’s true, John McCain’s running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has revealed that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. Palin said, ‘We should never have introduced her to John Edwards.’” Where was the outrage? Was Conan promoting infidelity with an underage girl?

8 ) From two different Tonight Shows: “Governor Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. Oh, boy, you thought John Edwards was in trouble before, now he’s really done it!” AND…“All the Republicans are heaping praise on Governor Palin. Fred Thompson said, as an actor, he could see them making a movie about Sarah Palin and her family. Didn’t they already make that movie? I think it was called ‘Knocked Up!’”–Jay Leno

<snip>

AND…The NUMBER 1 REASON Sarah Palin’s Outrage is Misplaced and A Little Late…

1) The “candidate who must be obeyed” was talking about Palin’s family when he said, “Kids are off limits.” Jake Tapper of ABC News interviewed then Candidate Obama, and asked, “Governor Palin and her husband issued a statement today saying their 17-year-old daughter Bristol, who is unmarried, is five months pregnant. Do you have any reaction?”

OBAMA: “I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people’s families are off-limits. And people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Governor Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know, my mother had me when she was 18. And, you know, how family deals with issues and — and, you know, teenaged children, that shouldn’t be the topic of — of our politics.”

The Palin children have been fodder for comedians since they were brought to the national stage. Incest isn’t funny. Ugly kid jokes aren’t funny. Many of the things said about public figures are just flat wrong. Being “knocked up” isn’t much fun. Racist comments hurt all of us. I exhausted the top 10 list before I ran out of outrageous instances ignored by the Palins.

The National Organization for Women named David Letterman to their Hall of Shame. Will Letterman be joining Jay Leno? Conan O’Brien? Craig Ferguson? Seth Myers? Rush Limbaugh? Or John McCain? Of course not! I guess N.O.W. didn’t bother checking Sarah Palin’s “feminist” credentials.

All across America, right wing radio and television talk show hosts feigned outrage in perfect synchronicity. The same people who back up Palin’s high drama assertions against Letterman ignored the connections between Bill O’Reilly’s irresponsible incitement and the murder of Dr. George Tiller. David Letterman, a late night entertainer, apologized. Fox New’s Bill O’Reilly has not.

And just for good measure, in case you all missed it during the campaign, here is Sarah Palin giggling at local shock jocks calling former state congresswoman Republican Lyda Green a "bitch" and calling her a "cancer," when everyone knows she is a cancer survivor.

She cannot come right out and say that she accepts the apology, she has to do it through her PR machine?

35. She doesn't even get what the joke was all about!
"men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls "???

No, Sarah. It was a joke about promiscuous girls who get themselves knocked up. The Palin family should be experts on this subject.

38. HELP! How old IS WIllow Palin?
This website has her birthdate as January 21, 1994.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_is_Willow_Palin's_birthday

Which would make her 15 1/2. Why is everyone saying she's 14?

that said July 7, 1994, but I've seen that January date, also. Perhaps we need to see a birth certificate. Sarah has a habit of lying for "effect."
