For people here to get their knickers all twisted over events in Iran is pretty near as ignorant as it gets. No matter who is elected the REAL leader remains Khamenei and the lesser ayatollahs. period! Nothing is done or changed without consent from him. No difference from the past eight years here, if Cheney&Co. didn't okay it, it wasn't going to happen, and if they wanted something it happened irrespective of Bush or anyone else. And don't go yapping on about well this other guy is a mederate and all that crap, as long as the country is ruled by the ayatollahs there is NO, ZIP, NADA moderate anywhere of consequence.

3. I think you're missing the point

Nobody in the street in Iran is expecting a long term thug hand picked by the Mullahs to be their socially liberal, westernizing savior.

They're in the street risking their lives because they don't think the PTB even bothered to count the vote, it was that suspicious.

That's why they're rioting. It has nothing to do with which hand picked thug won. It has to do with the way they were simply brushed aside.
