Do you want to pressure Eric Holder into holding people accountable?
Then I will share this with you I received from the American Freedom Campaign:

Dear (mmonk),

As you know, the American Freedom Campaign has long argued that Bush administration officials should be held accountable for their involvement in the development and implementation of a program of torture in the years following 9/11. In that spirit, we are pleased to pass along this alert from our friends at the Bill of Rights Defense Committee.
They are encouraging all members of the public and individuals in some specific occupations to sign letters to Attorney General Eric Holder and the Senate Intelligence Committee, demanding accountability.
I encourage you to click on the appropriate link below and add your name to this call.

Best,

Steve

Steve Fox, Campaign Director

American Freedom Campaign Action Fund

======================

Sign on for torture accountability!
The Attorney General's reluctance to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate potential crimes by former officials involved in torturing detainees is endangering our nation's fundamental values and our credibility as a worldwide human rights leader.
Take a stand today by signing BORDC's letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and the Senate Intelligence Committee demanding accountability for torture. We will be sending a series of letters, including some on behalf of individuals practicing particular professions, reflecting the unique challenges they face.

• Letter open to all signers http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/498/t/3535/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=1080

• Letter signed by legal professionals http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/498/t/3535/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=1066

• Letter signed by education professionals http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/498/t/3535/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=1078

• Letter signed by clergy and religious lay-leaders http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/498/t/3535/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=1079

Sign your name today to join a chorus of voices from around the country demanding accountability. Torture is illegal, immoral, and un-American, and officials responsible for it should be held accountable.

Sincerely,

Shahid Buttar, Executive Director

Bill of Rights Defense Committee

1. This is a very good cause,
but one of the things I know from various old friend who work on the Hill is that email petitions, letters, etc., are routinely junked.

You have to make the point via your Congressperson, Senators, either with a phone call, but, preferably with a snail mail letter. They get noticed, and very often get responses better than the automatic responses generated by email.

Like it or not, it's still a hands-on operation, Capitol Hill..................

7. That may be so but I have found that in the last few years its been
pretty futile unless it is something benign. I have had access to Congressional staffers and it is harder now that the party seems more top down now and staying with their program. I think what makes this different is Holder is not in Congress and the nature of this campaign is different in that multiple letters are generated.

9. True. Nothing to lose but something to gain.
Worth trying.

But, if the job of the DOJ is to enfoce U.S. law and if it truly had enforce all laws (as we've been told so often the last couple of days), we really should not have to pressure Holder. Apparently, there is still some selective enforcement golng on.

5. Thank you
I was just looking for this.

Holder should know better than to ignore his obligation.
