Are you more fearful of the bible's 666 birthmark, or Orwell's Room 101?

Are you more fearful of the bible's 666 birthmark, or Orwell's Room 101?
Edited on Tue Jun-09-09 11:56 AM by Cyrano
Okay, a quick primer: The bible's 666 is the number of "the anti-Christ." George Orwell's Room 101 in his novel "1984" is "the worst place in the world."

I consider both of them fiction, but here's what really terrifies me. The possibility that the Bush years of murder, torture, war crimes and the nullification of the rights of American citizens can happen again.

As of this very moment, no one has been held responsible for the horrors that were committed in our name during the last administration. (Oh, sorry. A sergeant and a private at Abu Ghraib were convicted of ... following orders?)

So stop worrying about 666 and 101. What all of us should really be worried about is what's to stop the next Bush/Cheney-like creatures from pulling off a rerun of the past eight, horrible years?

Any ideas on how to (against all odds and the existing establishment) bring these people before the bar of justice either here or in the Hague?

1. 666 on foreheads: people who worship money etc. 101: finding the trigger of fear.

It's the symbolism. 666 is how people have other things on their minds like money, material possessions, TV instead of good things like community activism. The CEO who pocketed $1 billion by denying health care to sick people is an example of the fact that this does exist.

Room 101: certainly we've seen that over the past 8 years. They find the thing that you most fear (like rats) and expose you to it to get you to follow them. For bush, he pumped up the fear and got himself elected so he could line the pockets of his cronies.

2. 666 refered to the Roman Emperor Nero
Most scholars believe that 666 refers to Roman Emperor Nero<2><4><11> (whose name, written in Aramaic can be valued at 666, using the Hebrew numerology of gematria), a manner of speaking against the emperor without the Roman authorities knowing.

I don't spend a lot of time worrying about apocalyptic literature. I worry a lot more about political leaders who appear to believe in Book of Revelation by John of Patmos or the coming of the 12th imam, or Mahdi.

Leadership like this could result in a catastrophic end time nuclear war that was merely a self-fulfilling prophecy.
