5. God, I love them for doing it! And may those against equality for all, hear Jesus' words upon their
death, "Whatever you do until the least of these, you do unto me." (Matthew 25:40)

Horribly judgmental decision I believe, because it states the religious viewpoint of it being 'wrong' in some religious people's eyes, is more important than the equal right under the law for any two adults to have a civil union/coupling and be married unto one another.

Is it possible they didn't make that argument when fighting against it in the appearance before the CA Supreme Court?

I agree with the DUer that said they should say the religious views are overriding civil rights. I agree with that! I'm a Christian and Christian laws cannot be interpreted into laws for government, but one's own life. I don't want another religion taking over, say Muslim, and telling me exactly how I have to live.

22. exactly
i'm from california for the first 52 years of my life, and maybe once, but now? i'd have to quibble with that characterization as well. prop 8 passed in an election, prop 8 held up by the supreme court, and the governor wants to put poor people on the street, hungry. trends i find disheartening to say the least.

i love and miss the place of my birth but it's kind of like my country these days: not mine anymore.

8. You think we'll see nationwide cries of "OMG they dragged clergy away in handcuffs!"
Edited on Tue May-26-09 08:10 PM by NMMNG
Like we did when they were at Notre Dame whining about Obama speaking? No, of course not. It's only when clergy are trying to eradicate people's rights that they're considered heroes for getting arrested. :eyes:

On edit: more photos from today available here.

in either this thread or the other one.

Can't remember her name, but I think I crossed paths with her at GA in 2006. She looks really familiar and I do believe the woman I am thinking of was from California.

15. Thank you so much for posting these!
I was at that protest in NYC, that photo was taken right in front of me! To give it some context, that was taken at Sheridan Square, right in front of the historic Stonewall Inn. We gathered there before marching.

This is my report of the march:

26. Does This Look Too Much Like Kent State?
Edited on Wed May-27-09 09:20 PM by Mermaid7
What's happening w this country, with the police state against the people?

Who's business is it, (certainly not our government) to ordain marriage???

I need not say this, but I am straight, just so everyone who is straight or gay knows, how everyone else is feeling about this.

It's not our government's place to legislate love, or religious ceremonies.

Haven't they got anything else to do?

They need to get the fuck out of our personal business and religious beliefs.

Separation of Church and State, remember that one?????????????????????

27. Well here the protestors want to get arrested to make their point and
at Kent State student protestors, and in some cases onlookers were shot.

You misunderstand the former and trivialize the latter.
