Surge is NOT working based on numbers
Jan-05 107
Mar-05 35

Jan-06 62
Mar-06 31

Jan-07 83
Mar-07 81

Prior two years, March had 1/2 the US deaths as the preceding January. This year, no decrease at all.

1. The "Surge" is just a way to stall our depature...

There is no way it could possibly work. Iraq has been lost for a loge time.

2. I will just say it.
They think it is - and I am not talking about B*sh - I am talking about the kids.

They are young and stupid - I have no expectation - I am glad it is a little safer for them.

I pray it works - I do. I just know better.

Until the day the US military can show the "bad guys" dead bodies - they are out there.

And they are moving north. And if we were them, that is exactly what we would do.

Watch the area around Kirkuk. It will blow there. I speak only as a history student in this matter.

4. Of course not
I imagine that if 3 million troops from all over the world declared martial law all over Iraq, the Sunni insurgents would just bunker down and blend into the population. No matter what, as soon as the forces leave, those insurgents will come out of the woodwork.

This war can't be won.

6. I love Man of La Mancha -
It is true - it is a little safer in Baghdad - nothing I read on the news I believe - but my kid says so. SO, it is probably true.

But everything else I said was true too. Without proof they are permenantly "unengaged" - then they are still there.

They are moving north - I am so sure.

7. Oh, undoubtedly, Joe. . .
it's the old "whack a mole" analogy we've illustrated so often on these boards -- apply pressure in one sector and the involvement there fades, only to be replaced by outbreaks of violence far removed from present efforts to staunch it. As was said before, they're only doing what we'd do if the tables were turned.

I hope you didn't see my Don Quixote quote as directed at you. It just seems to amply illustrate BushCo's insanity.

10. You bet.
It was a good quote - real.

And I really do like Man of La Mancha.

This is really bad this war - god, it really is - and I know war. Those kids are screwed. And I like those kids.

8. Those are not the numbers the Surge is designed to lower.
A better measuremeant would be the numbers of Iraqi civilian dead.
