Want to make a Christian conservative's head explode?
Originally, US Coinage had the words "Mind Your Business" instead of "In God We Trust".

"In God We Trust" was not put on US Coinage until November of 1861.

And it wasn't on paper money until 1957.

Yes... 1957. During Eisenhower's administration.

In 1787, US Coinage had the motto "Mind Your Business". Ben Franklin's idea. And a great double entendre....

Wouldn't it be great if, as a nation, we returned to the motto of "Mind Your Business"?

1. half of the double entendre works for me
(the part about keep nose in your business and not in mine)
But I don't think we can survive any more catering to big business.

2. Has nothing to do with "Big" business... it's valid for the small business owner as well

Mind Your Business.

i.e. Take care of your business. Whether you're a mom-and-pop store or a multi-national corporation.

Mind your business.

If Wall Street firms had followed that advice for the past decade, we wouldn't be in this mess.

5. I keep remembering the GOP philosophy
of making America the best place in the world to do business.
So 'mind your business' to me equates with the GOP (and the Dems as well) catering to business.

Maybe it resonates differently with you.

8. It wasn't a statement about government at all....

Ben Franklin was a business man. He knew that the "care and feeding" of a business was a constant work in progress. He didn't go after the "quick buck", but worked to grow his businesses... ethically and responsibly.

It's good advice to ALL business owners, large and small... from CitiCorp down to the local hardware store.

3. Just tell them it isn't on newly minted dollar coins
(Which it actually is, but around the rim instead of on one of the faces.)

4. And then hit them with "one nation under God" added to the Pledge of Allegiance
under Eisenhower as well.

9. answer to your subject line: YES
and a K&R because I think we should have never changed the original motto-

My husband has coins that say "Mind your business" - I found it fascinating when I first saw it.
