Could have another Senate appointment later this year:

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn told home-state reporters on Wednesday afternoon that he expects fellow Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R) to resign from Congress sometime this fall to run for governor full time.

“I’m just guessing. I don’t have inside information,” Cornyn told reporters, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The NRSC chairman explained that if Hutchison were to resign too early, Texas election law would force a special election in May. If Hutchison waits until the fall to leave Congress, Republican Gov. Rick Perry could appoint a replacement to fill the seat until a May 2010 special election.

With GOP Rick Perry and his GOP secessionists happy togther, Hutchinson is realizing she needs to get going if she wants to knock Perry off next year.
