Response from my ConservaDem
I recently wrote to Mark Udall (CO) to express my concern about his being a part of the "Moderate Dems Working Group." The response I received makes me feel like he just doesn't get it. I wonder if some of you can read his response and help me gather my thoughts to respond...

Dear (Blaze),
Thank you for contacting me regarding your views on my participation in the "Moderate Dems Working Group". I appreciate your taking the time to share your specific thoughts with me.

The challenges facing our country are deep and serious. More than ever we need to get beyond ideological or partisan labels and find solutions. I plan to be a pragmatic and independent voice in the Senate and in this new working group, for the good of all Coloradans. My participation in this group represents my eagerness to change the way policies are made in Washington. As President Obama has urged, we need to come together and put aside partisan fights to address the challenges facing our nation.
I am dedicated to tackling tough issues such as health care, education, climate change, and energy, as well as passing a sensible budget that advances President Obama's priorities. The reality in the U.S. Senate is that we need sixty votes to overcome minority party filibusters, which unfortunately have become the norm. This means that we have to look for ways to attract sixty votes to pass any major legislation. In light of this, my participation in the Democratic moderates group is not about blocking anyone or any group's legislative agenda. Instead, my participation is focused on bridging partisan divides and helping to get bills passed that move our country forward. In the process, you can always count on me to stand firm in my beliefs and represent the best interests of Colorado.

I will continue to listen closely to what you and other Coloradans have to say about matters before Congress, the concerns of our communities, and the issues facing Colorado and the nation. My job is not about merely supporting or opposing legislation; it is also about bridging the divide that has paralyzed our nation's politics. For more information about my positions and to learn how my office can assist you, please visit my website at www.markudall.senate.gov. "

I guess I just don't believe we can put aside "partisan fights." It's a nice ideal, but I don't buy it. And I hate to see us wasting our majority while we have it.

Thanks for any help!

Blaze

1. Oh he gets it, he just does not want to talk about it.
He needs a good progressive primary challenger to encourage futher thought about it.

2. Both our Senators are Conservadems
sigh

And the other, Michael Bennet, is more likely to be challenged because he was appointed.

3. Yup I live in Colorado too....
I don't buy this whole "Moderate Dems" trying to bridge the "partisan divide" either. Udall has been a disappointment thus far, although it was either him or big oil Bob Schaffer.
