Sen. Ben (D-?-Ne) Nelson: Labor bill a "fool's errand"

I'm so tired of sticking up for my Dem Senator. He did hold the line 4 years ago when Bush & co wanted to end the 60 votes needed to end filibusters. I was in the room 2 years ago and was photographed handing Ben Nelson a check for $10,000 from AFSCME. He took in over $200,000 in one night with a big smile on his face. He was a better choice than Ricketts: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2422524
What I don't buy is Ben spouting the right win business lies on this bill.

Nelson: Labor bill a "fool's errand"

Nebraska Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson, not a fan of the Employee Free Choice Act, tells Fox News-er Trish Turner that efforts to cut a card check compromise are doomed this year.

Even gutting the bill to remove binding arbitration — a key union demand — won't do the trick, he says:

"You take away the arbitration issue, and you still have the ‘card check’, so that doesn’t work. You take away the ‘card check’ and you still have the arbitration problem. And if both go away, you’re left with nothing. It’s a fool’s errand to do this. I just don’t see an agreement happening,” Nelson said.

Iowa Democrat Tom Harkin is pushing ahead to forge a compromise that breaks through the magic 60-vote barrier — and EFCA skeptic Dianne Feinstein has put forward a compromise proposal that takes away secret ballot provisions.

Addressing reporters yesterday, she was considerably more optimistic than Nelson.

1. Nelson, Sir, is Just a Damned Shame
It takes a lot to get me to say this, but as matters stand now it would not trouble me to see him defeated by a Republican. Hopefully Nebraska Democrats can strip him of his seat in a primary election.

2. Sen. Ben (D-?-Ne) Nelson: reelection a "fool's errand"
He needs to be replaced so badly. He rarely ever votes for Democratic ideals.

:grr:

4. Wouldn't many in labor also agree that a law without card check and arbitration would be worthless?
I believe there are substantive compromises that can be reached on this issue, but it seems like Nelson is echoing the same sentiment that many here do.
