OMG! - Young Americans Losing Their Religion
New research shows young Americans are dramatically less likely to go to church -- or to participate in any form of organized religion -- than their parents and grandparents.

"It's a huge change," says Harvard University professor Robert Putnam, who conducted the research.

Historically, the percentage of Americans who said they had no religious affiliation (pollsters refer to this group as the "nones") has been very small -- hovering between 5 percent and 10 percent. However, Putnam says the percentage of "nones" has now skyrocketed to between 30 percent and 40 percent among younger Americans.

Putnam calls this a "stunning development." He gave reporters a first glimpse of his data Tuesday at a conference on religion organized by the Pew Forum on Faith in Public Life.

The research will be included in a forthcoming book, called "American Grace."

2. Losing my religion is slang for losing my temper or at the end of my rope.
Maybe young Americans are feeling that way too.

6. Our youth is sick and tired of the politicization of religion
Putnam says that in the past two decades, many young people began to view organized religion as a source of "intolerance and rigidity and doctrinaire political views," and therefore stopped going to church.

4. Watch Christian Rightists call this a George Soros or satanic conspiracy...
When they were the ones that drove people away from religion.

Who wants to be a part of something that is obsessed about making sure "TEH GAY" don't have equal rights?

Who wants to be a part of something that talks about peace with one side of their mouth and cheers Bush into Iraq with the other side?

Nobody sane, that's for sure.

7. Given the way the Uber-Pious have poisoned the well,
It's not surprising.

The Christians who believe their faith is something they should practice and not preach are seldom shown in the MSM, and more often than not they are shown in a negative light.

The Falwells, Robertsons, Osteens and Parsleys have wrought this abandonment.

8. Half the problem is that the young are working on Sundays... Who is serving
the old folks after Sunday service? And the other issue is that its boring. Liven up the churches, speak about spirituality and doing Yoga and gardening. Young want that, not a chastity belt and a moral whipping.
