Toby Keith Now Against the War in Iraq
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 12:33 PM by erpowers
Toby Keith has now come out against the Iraq war. He says that he has been against the war from the beginning and is in favor of a time table for removing the troops. Keith also said that he believes that there will be a civil war and the Kurds will eventually come out on top. To read more on Keith go to thinkprogress.org.

19. From Playboy, 2004...
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 12:24 PM by tuvor
On the Iraq war: "I'm pro-war on terror. Whether we should go from country to country, like with the Iraq thing, I don't know. This ain't as simple as Afghanistan. We're going to Iraq for what? For terrorism? Have we seen any terrorist training camps? I haven't seen the smoking gun. And the haven't found the weapons of mass destruction. But the second I said in the press that I wasn't' sure about Iraq, people said, 'He's trying to save his career.' What? My career is boomin', buddy."

http://www.thatscountry.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi/3/2146

I know the war had been in effect for 1.5 years when he said this, but it suggests that any change-of-heart that Keith may have had is more than two years old.

It's a couple of years too late to take him to task now for "changing his mind"--assuming, of course, that he ever was in support of the Iraq invasion.

I think a quote indicating his explicit support for the Iraq invasion would put this to rest.

7. SORRY... That disgusting racist war mongering song of his
that he put out right after 911 is unforgivable.... It will take a lot to convince me that he should not simply be left to rot in his own homicidal rant that became the mantra for all the testosterone-drive RW chicken hawks...

24. Fair or Not, Lynching And Racist Redneckery Go Hand In Hand
And Toby loved him some lynchin'.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2003_05/001099.php

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

Yep, that was all about justice.

Between that, many other examples of borderline jingoism ("We'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way"), and the worship he enjoys (well, enjoyed, I imagine that's dried up right now) from the genuinely racist psychos of Freeptardia...well, you know what they say about lying down with dogs.

If Freeptardia loved me, I'd seriously work on my image and message until they hated my guts.

But not about the lynching you are talking about, because you are implying that he is lynching black people, correct?

34. Ummmmmmmm No It's Not
People of many races got lynched in the Good Ol' Days of Texas. I not implying that Toby is (or openly advocates) lynching black people (nice straw man there); I'm saying his subject matter and vocabulary is loaded with the same words and concepts the Klan uses as code, and he's not trying nearly hard enough to distance himself from their ilk. (You know, the same way Freeptards demand every Muslim in America rally loudly against terrorism and in support of Bush every single day to prove their patriotism.)

Reading comprehension: It's awesome! Try some today!

If you choose to believe it was all about "Western justice," go right ahead. I just don't see why you aren't swallowing similar horsecrap, like "pre-emptive war of liberation." A Texas boy said it! Does that not mean it's true?

27. Are you being disenginious? Yes, songs that make fun of
praying to Allah but getting killed by US bombs anyway, or characterize folks as "camel herders" "living in caves", are racist. I would say fuck him, but I consider "fuck" as a positive kind of experience for the most part. I hope he fades back into whatever dark corner he crawled out of.

35. Feel free to do your own research, but here goes:

I'm just a middle-aged, middle-eastern camel herdin' man
I got a 2 bedroom cave here in North Afghanistan

So we prayed to Allah with all of our might
And then those big U.S. jets came flyin one night
They dropped little bombs all over our holy land

14. He always was against Iraq.
his war songs support the war against the Taliban and his beef with the Dixie Chicks was more about airing dirty laundry in public and he's long ago apologized for asking NBC to cut the Dixie Chicks from the program. He's never really made any comment on the war in Iraq except to support our troops.

This isn't to say Toby Keith wouldn't benefit greatly from a "boot in the ass".

18. I too am against a war prom
I see no reason for a formal dance to be held over there. Maybe Toby is angry he wasn't invited to sing.

As for Toby's assertion that the Kurds will come out on top, they are already essential autonomous in NE Iraq and they may manage to ethnicly cleanse Kirkuk, but if Toby thinks the Kurds could project power over the whole country, well that's absurd.

And yes, I know war prom was a typo.

Maybe he thinks its a US-style civil war: some boys in blue, some boys in gray, one side wins and the other side ends up driving pickups for the next 150 years.
