It just raises the percent of GDP going to the health care sector. This time the taxpayers are subsidizing the short comings of the insurance lobby. Hardly what the economy needs.

we need single payer. I'm going bankrupt trying to keep my family insured and healthy and I'm sure there are plenty more like me out there. I'm tired of watching my paycheck evaporate over healthcare in this damned "private" system. I'm on my 3rd year in a row of net pay cuts due to it. I've had enough!

30. We can amplify their voices by writing our representatives
K&R! This is an easy thing to do:

From Michael Moore's ACTION PAGE:
Tell Congress To Pass H.R. 676 Now
48,110 Submissions so far
Under H.R. 676 , Medicare would be extended and improved so that all individuals residing in the United States would receive high quality and affordable health care services. They would receive all medically necessary services by the physicians of their choice, with no restrictions on what providers they could visit. If implemented, the United States National Health Insurance Act would cover primary care, dental, mental health, prescription drugs, and long term care.

The one click form below will send your personal message to all your government representatives selected below, with the subject "Pass H.R. 676." At the same time you can send your personal comments only as a letter to the editor of your nearest local daily newspaper if you like

42. Great link here:
I filled it out and added:

I had to help my father for 10 years because Medicare did not cover alot of his prescriptions.
He always felt bad I had to pay for his prescriptions. I did not mind. He would have wanted this.

Please Pass H.R. 676. It is the right thing to move America forward.
Thank you.

38. K&R - - - Say "NO" to any mandatory private insurance/corporate welfare scheme...

We can't afford a multi-billion dollar give-away to insurance corporations that still will leave Americans without affordable PUBLIC healthcare.

We will never be able to afford (as individuals or as a nation) universal healthcare until we remove the blood-sucking insurance companies.

Health insurance corporations are not only destroying our access to affordable healthcare, they are destroying American industry & competitiveness. The cost of health insurance for retirees was a huge factor in the demise of Detroit.

We need Single Payer now.

A public option plan will give only a portion of the savings of Single Payer, but will increase the eventual likelihood of evolution into Single Payer.

But a "private plan only" mandatory insurance scheme, as the corporate-welfare Republicans - and some Democratic corporatists - are peddling, will kill Single Payer forever.

Yet we hear Democratic Senators saying Single Payer is "too divisive."

It is the corporatist sell-outs who are the truly divisive, and they should be ashamed to call themselves Democrats.

If our politicians have health care, they there is no reason why we can't have it, but the damned insurance companies are extremely greedy and will do anything to stop Universal Health Care. I am sick of bought and paid for politicans.

do. Sick of calling and writing and visiting and re-explaining what I know they already know. Sick of predending that their only motivation is not corporate $$$. Sick of having to plead and beg when they know damn well people are dying while they let the Profiteers write the legislation and control their votes. Sick of their cowardice and venality and smug conviction that we'll vote for them anyway because "the other side is worse." Guess what? The other side is no "worse" for the sick who are dying, the children who are hungry, the jobless, the homeless, and the dismembered children we're blowing to bits around the world.

There was apparently no senators there who spoke for me, thankfully these patriots were there to at least let history know that we weren't all snowblind idiots who bought into this corporatizing of human health.

Two things that should we always be wary of the 'profit' motive in are Healthcare and War. Apparently we are dedicated to being wrong in those two things as a nation for another decade.

Huge kudos to those people, but I'm not terribly optimistic that anything we do will win the day against the millions the insurance/drug people are throwing around. It's sad, we all want to be and stay well, the people facilitating our care want to make big bucks. The wing nuts being against single payer is one thing, but there are a lot of democrats throwing us under the bus one way or another as well.
