My guesses on who Obama will nominate to the SC
Judge Sotomayer:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonia_Sotomayor

Judge Wardlaw

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_McLane_Wardlaw

Judge Wood

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Pamela_Wood

Solicitor General Kagan

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elena_Kagan

The first two are Hispanic women. The first three are in their fifties, Kagan is 49. The first three sit on appeals courts.

I don't think he'll appoint a man with only one woman on the court. There are other women who are also distinguished- Jennifer Granholm, for instance. There's some talk of Pam Karlan.

1. Kimba Woods...A Great Selection...
I would imagine his list is long. I will be watching to see if Ed Rendell's wife's name is thrown into the mix. If so, then we know that the fix was in.

Cheers...

2. Midge Rendell.
That name surfaced as a connection as soon as the dots did. I think any of the names so far would be great. And, I think Specter will be on board for whomever Obama chooses.

5. Chess vs. Checkers...
I'm no fan of Magic Bullet Arlen, but better to have him in the tent than outside. President Obama has a lot of heavy lifting coming up. The SCOTUS is the most polarizing and one that would have put Arlen in a real pickle had he stayed with the GOOP...he couldn't do a Clarence Thomas here or lose the support of the moderates but if he doesn't obstruct, the right wing would pounce on him. While others are critical of what was given here, with him trying to win Democratic support rather than try to hang on in a fracturing GOOP, I see him moving more to the left and jetisoning any far right stances to keep his seat in the boy's club.

The real mover here was health care...but my guess is that there are a lot of moving parts at work here. Biden & Rendell surely have something at stake here and they were the ones who were the real deal makers. I wouldn't be surprised if Rendell struck a deal as far as last summer...he played a critical role in bringing the Clinton's on board.

Cheers...

3. Harold Koh would be a great choice.
It would also likely be his toughest confirmation battle. He has the political capital now to do it.

4. I can't imagine he will appoint a man when
the last two appointees have been men, one replacing one of only two women who have ever been appointed to the SC. There are lots of qualified women. The only woman now on the Court is ill and in her seventies. Women have been a strong supporting bloc for Obama. If he appoints a man, he'll risk seriously alienating a lot of women. He's far more politically astute than that.

6. The Latina Lady is good plus it would help him electorally
and the right wings humpty dumpty heads they have just put back together would re-explode.

7. There are two Hispanic women on that list
though I wouldn't be surprised if he picked someone who is not on the bench.

9. I'd guess Kim McLane Wardlaw is the most probable.
She's not controversial, has extensive experience, and meets the demographic 'standards' of the base.
