I've got a fairly idiotic question to ask, regarding the repub points
okay, well, this is my question, with the standard exposition:

People like Grover Norquist, Limpballs, Rove and others have made it a point to say that they would like government to be SO small, that they could drown it in the bathtub. (Paraphrasing Norquist)

So if this is true, why are they so vehement to change laws to peek into everyone's bedroom, their medicine cabinet, and their private lives?

I've heard that they want to see State government makes its own laws and rules, but these people have condemned that as well. The only time i've seen their winning anything was with Prop 8 in California, and that was because so many assholes from out state brought in a great deal of money to make it happen. You know, grease a few palms, and you have a friend for life.

And if this is true, in 2000, why did the pugs reject the decision by the Florida Supreme court, and ask for a decision from SCOTUS?

These bastards aren't even focused on their aims and agenda, and yet a distinct portion of their constituency will gleefully and ignorantly follow their every move.

3. They're basically lying. All they want is low, or no taxes for themselves.
That's their main goal. Everything else is just window-dressing.

6. their aims and agenda
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 04:33 PM by Two Americas
Their aims and their agenda are fairly obvious - to advance the needs and desires of the wealthy few. They consistently and relentlessly follow that agenda, and nothing else comes even close to explaining their behavior.

If Democrats were clear about that obvious fact, they would never be in power. So long as Democrats are not clear about that - because of the fifth column among us advancing the conservative agenda and continually confusing people about that - we never know what the battle is about nor where the battle lines are and so are chronically missing in action. The right wingers win by default. Even their appeals to the everyday people are weak and absurd, and could only succeed so long as there is almost a complete lack of meaningful opposition.

When people insist on seeing politics as though it were a sports contest, between Team Democrat over there in the blue uniforms, and Team Republican in the red - and so many do, as the MSM tells them to do - they will be unable to see political reality. We are laying the groundwork right now every day for a resurgence of the right wing in one guise or another. They don't care about Team Republican - that was just cover to use for a while. They don't care about any of their so-called "positions" on "issues" - that was all to fool the public, and more importantly to fool us and draw us into false battles that we can not ever win.

7. You've got that right. And they are scraping the bottom to find candidates to carry their water.
I genuinely feel sorry for old style Republicans who are who are wondering what has happened to their party. But having said that, I must add the GOP has always supported the interests of the top end of the top 1% of the American wealthy. And it works quite well for them. I just don't recall that they have crippled the country like they have now.

Perhaps we can now have a conversation about the role and responsibilities of our government in this country and quit the bickering about "big" government. Government should be the size it needs to be to meet the expectations of the majority of the American people. It's primary role is not to be a sugar daddy for the wealthy and the corporations. And that is what the GOP has worked for and it has been quite successful.

The size of our country and its vast diversity has worked against us in that the GOP has been able to further divide us into jealous and hate filled cliques. And their ability to make so many Americans to disavow our basic values like condoning and justifying torture is truly mind boggling.
