anyone seen State of Play? Holy Shit! (spoiler alert)
Edited on Sat Apr-25-09 08:57 PM by Mari333
the new movie with Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck...all about a Blackwater type mercenary organization attempting to kill off anyone who gets in their way to gain 40 billion dollar contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan...
and privatization of Homeland Security law enforcement by mercenary organizations
it really makes them look like assholes. Its a damned good movie.

1. This season of "24" has a similar plotline.

7. does this mean 24 is turning Democratic?
Will they have war crimes prosecutions? Will the series end when the cell door clangs shut on Jack Bauer?

12. 24 Spoiler - sort of
This season started out with Jack Bauer called in front of a Senate committee to answer for his war crimes. He was taken out of the hearings by the FBI to help them in a case.

Later in the season, Bauer was exposed to a bioweapon and is supposed to be dying from it. We're still waiting to find out if he actually dies - but then he 'died' before and the series continues. After all, what is a good action series without a cliff hanger?

13. The show is not nearly as RW as people make it out to be.

None of the villains in the show's history have been left of center, and the one really corrupt president was a Republican, while the two heroic ones were Democrats.

Also, torture was shown several times to be ineffective.

2. I saw War Inc. last night. Extreme satire about middle east type situations.
War Inc. is about a private corporate army waging war so that the company could secure contracts to re-build - and destroy in a perpetual cycle.

Tanks with corporate billboards and advertising.

A service to 'pimp out your ride with a missile launcher'.

Some gory bloody messes but the black comedy is good.

Stars John Cousak as a sane/insane super killing machine mercenary spy type guy.
Marisa Tomei. Ouch!!

6. War inc is good
good movie to show the effect of the military industrial complex and how it's become a business. There's the other movie with Nocholas Cage where he's a arms dealer, cant recall the name atm, and that just shows how arms and ammo can be sold under the name of the USA. Our tax dollars at work maiming, dismembering and killing millions. Yay :(

5. Rent the original BBC miniseries. I've been telling people about it for years.
It's great, although it doesn't have the Blackwater angle.

9. BBC series
That was great wasn't it. It also reminded me of how investigative journalism is supposed to be.

8. Also on "24" A Blackwater type private army
is actually attacking American citizens because the head "used to visit the Oval Office once a month, in the previous administration."

Or, it may be a pawn in the hands of yet sinister people. Four more episodes left.

And, the new President, a woman, if lamenting the fact that we "outsourced" military functions to a private army.
