Think about it. The Republicans generally try to posture as "tough" and "strong on defense". In reality, they are fearful, mewling cowards.
Remember the Cold War, when the phrase "Better Dead than Red" had some currency? It basically stated that the speaker would rather *cease to exist* than become that which completely opposed his own principles. (Now, Joe McCarthy and his supporters DID become very similar to the very Soviets that they despised, which only proves my point by exception.)
Now, we have Republicans telling us that we have to completely ignore the rule of law, and become torturers in deed or torture-enablers in order to "save American lives". Why? Are most Americans (or most Republicans) so cowardly that they'll gladly give up everything they believe in just to continue living? That seems anything BUT strong or tough to me.
It's time to call torture what it is: a tool of cowards. It's also time to call torturers and torture-advocates what they are: Cowards.
