36. Million Armed Militia Man March on Washington Dc
Just wondering...will this make the world a better place, too?

Hi, I am new to the DU. I have posted a few times but in my excitement forgot to introduce myself and tell you members what a sharp and deeply intelligent, pithy and fall on the floor laughing my ass off funny you all are. I can't find a better place to get news and commentary about the things that are near and dearest to my heart. Thank you. I was examining the news on AOL, and I think I saw some posts to the effect that AOL is slanted and I agree. They allowed people to post for days about the FLOTUS with the most horrid, racist remarks I have ever seen. I tried to put in my 2 cents and call out AOL for providing a platform for this kind of dreck, but to no avail. No monitoring, no rules. Call the First Lady a "racist black ugly monkey". Oh, well, freedom of speech and I defend your right to say it, however just reinforces the realization that I do not know what is going on at AOL if it cannot ask people to state their opinions intelligently, etc. Or maybe my feelings are inappropriate because as you can see I am confused. Anyway, I am used to the way in which the people on DU check that kind of speech and respond with as mentioned before with sharp and deeply intelligent, pithy and fall on the floor laughing my ass off funny responses. Good on you!
Also can someone please advise? How to I put pictures on the posts. Must be more involved than cut and paste because my pics were not placed on post after this procedure.

I hope the movement will fizzle just like the tea parties. I live in OH and I hear they are planning for a group from this state. I will be watching closely to see which of my neighbors are there. There used to be a huge billboard sign for the John Birch society as late as 2001 just outside our internationally attended small liberal arts college town. I don't know how they got away with it for so long.

"...to bring you a special bulletin from the Intercontinental Radio News. At twenty minutes before eight, central time, Professor Farrell of the Mount Jennings Observatory, Chicago, Illinois, reports observing several explosions of incandescent gas, occurring at regular intervals on the planet Mars. The spectroscope indicates the gas to be hydrogen and moving towards the earth with enormous velocity. Professor Pierson of the Observatory at Princeton confirms Farrell's observation, and describes the phenomenon as (quote) like a jet of blue flame shot from a gun (unquote). We now return you to the music of Ramón Raquello, playing for you in the Meridian Room of the Park Plaza Hotel, situated in downtown New York.

We've grown so inured to the often unbelievable nonsense on television, or the absurd chain emails we gather in our inboxes, that the idea of a hysteria-inciting radio (radio!) play is laughable. So try, for a spell, to put yourself in the shoes of listeners who tuned in 70 years ago to The Mercury Theater on the Air's performance of The War of the Worlds."

I don't mind humorous posts that start flame wars. The rule, I thought, was to stop people deliberately trying to pick fights, not to stop people making sarcastic remarks that get misinterpreted as serious.

The mods will decide. :)
