Damn! N. Myrtle Beach is burning
At least 70 homes destroyed by blaze in Horry County

Taken from the top floor of the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes, photo shows the fire glowing the sky red near the upscale development Grande Dunes on Wednesday evening in Myrtle Beach.

At least 70 homes in Horry County have been destroyed by fire overnight, authorities said.

Forty of those homes were located off Watertower Road in the Carolina Forest community, according to Scott Hawkins, spokesman for S.C. Forestry Commission.

And 30 to 50 homes in North Myrtle Beach also were destroyed, according to Nicole Aiello, city spokeswoman.

The homes were located in the Barefoot Resort, which is located behind Barefoot Landing.

About 2,500 people have been evacuated in the North Myrtle Beach area, west of the Intracoastal Waterway, Aiello said.

1. Relax, it's just rich people's stuff
Admit it. At least a dozen others were thinking that but not dumb enough to say it out loud.

Fire sucks, regardless of the social class that it impacts.

2. There was a fire down there in the '70s.

It burned about 35000 acres. Hope this isn't that out of control.

3. I used to go to college up there. They'll rebuild. But I hope everyone was safe.
