Reasons to Rejoice--Competence.
In the aftermath of eight years of bad news under the Bush Administration and the consequences thereof, there are some real events to applaud:
Captain Sullenberger's safe landing of his plane on the Hudson River. Not because he was a "hero" but because he was so competent.
Captain Richard Phillips' wonderful act of giving himself up as hostage and the competence of the people who rescued him.
Steve Lopez's competence and empathy in discovering the violinist Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, writing a story about him, and following up to get him care. The movie "The Soloist" is coming out this month, depicting the story.
Barack Obama's competence in changing the tone of relationships between the United States and the rest of the world. So different from George Bush's speech setting the tone by using the phrase "Axis of Evil" as initially confronting. Cuba relationship changing. Others coming.
Susan Boyle--Competence again.
Yea!
