10. It got my attention yesterday how most of the signs directly related to

hateful language about Obama, much less about taxes. This is the biggest right-wing tantrum I've ever seen since the 2000 Miami riots that shut down the recounting of Bush v. Gore. Of course, they were also fake, Republican-organized riots, not populist or grassroots.

I mean the fact that almost all of the signs I've seen so far were way more applicable to Bush Jr's rule than to Obama, the Saudi one from this collection especially jumping out in this respect. And the fixation with Obama as Hitler and good (white) Christian Americans as Jews is not just about as offensive as can be but is totally divorced from any kind of truth. As one who appreciates the power of self-fulfilling prophecies, I say we start rounding these assholes up and putting them in cattle cars...







...not serious, of course, but you can bet that their bluster and bravado would come to a shuddering halt right around the time the Feds bang on their doors and yell "Raus!"

at every protest i have seen, i have seen all sorts of signs TOTALLY unrelated to the "actual reason" for the protest.

iow, what is relevant is what %age of signs are like this.

for example, at the WTO protests (i was a riot cop) i saw signs advocating freeing mumia, stopping whale hunting, promoting GLBT rights, freeing leonard peltier, etc.

iow, protests draw out these people.

one of my partners endured some assmunch calling him a f*cking n**ger and other such crap, for about 10 minutes. the guy was frothing and screaming this stuff right in his face.

does this mean the WTO protests were actually about calling african american policemen racial slurs?

fwiw, i have relatives who attended these protests, and none of them have a racist bone in their bodies. not saying there weren't racists at the teabagger rallies. i am saying that that was not the underlying reason for same, just because there were some racist assmunches there
