Is there a double standard?
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 07:03 PM by Stuart G
If this story was about a male teacher with a female ..would the story be different or the same?

High school teacher accused of sex with student
March 26, 2009 6:24 PM |
A female Rich South High School teacher has been charged with criminal sexual assault for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old male student last November, authorities said today.

Sarah L. Tolzien, 24, of Arlington Heights, allegedly had sex with the student, whom she coached on the cross-country team, on two occasions while driving the student home from cross-country practice, said Matteson Police Sgt. Kenneth Arvin.

Police and Cook County prosecutors, who conducted a four-month investigation into the case before announcing the charges this week, said the sexual activity between the two took place on Nov. 14 and Nov. 17 of last year.

"The relationship began sometime in October 2008," Arvin said in a news release.

The student's parents reported the alleged sexual activity to police in early December of 2008 after finding sexually-oriented text messages from Tolzien on his cell phone.

Because this is a woman, would a conviction lead to a lesser penalty? I don't know, any ideas?

1. Until we see the sentence, no.
If history is any guide, her sentence (if convicted) will be about half of what would be given to a male teacher.

Yes, there's a double standard, but this case thus far will not illustrate it.

2. Absolutely.
I was reading Rollings Stones Magazine and they had an article on a woman who was sleeping with a student. When he tried to tell his Principal he just asked for a high-five. Obviously it seems the social double standard reaches the court as well
