Poll question: How bad the economy?
Edited on Sun Mar-22-09 11:21 PM by Skip Intro

Is it almost the end of the world, is the US economy about to collapse, is it just slightly better than that, is it just a necessary downturn, things are already starting to look up?

Is the media trying to scare us? Is it really as bad as they say?

Your opinion please...

6. Really? You think?
Should I find a cave in Wyoming and stock up?

I mean, how much is hype and how much is real?

I guess the fact that I still have a job weakens my perspective.

I really don't know what to expect over the next few months.

Finding out the banking industry has a gun to our heads is jarring.

3. Other
It's far worse than they're telling us. But there is always reason to be optimistic. At least until you are dead.

5. I think certain sectors of the economy are fairly strong
and other sectors are fairly weak. Overall, and while the banking mess is in the limelight, I think that the economy, as a whole, is the same as it's ever been.

11. I was on a roller coaster yesterday....
...the 'Fairly-Odd Coaster" at Mall of America---to be more exact.

You would have never known that we were in any sort of economic crisis, with all of the activity
in that mall.

It was nuts!

12. There was a scene in the movie *Earthquake* ...
... where a bunch of people pushed their way into an elevator.

Then the elevator cable broke, and the elevator sped down the shaft with a dozen people or more inside.

Then it hit the bottom.

In the original cut, they showed that scene -- "blood" splattered on the camera lens.

Well, the recent banking scandals indicate that we've only just hit a bump on the way down.

13. Wow, yeah - wasn't that kind of movie.
Blood and gore, I mean.

To an extent, but I can't see the blood splattering on the lens type of scene in that movie.

14. I think it's still in the Super-Deluxe Widescreen version.
It was incredibly graphic for 1974.

You see a bunch of people pile in, then a cutaway of the elevator shaft, and the cable snaps. Then, a shot of the passengers floating up in the room as the fall negates gravity, and then they are abruptly squashed flat at the bottom, with some artistic spurts of blood.

Marjoe Gortner and Victoria Principal also had some heavy scenes as a wacko (MG) stalking a low-rent model (VP). I'm not a Heston-hater, so I can still watch it his stuff and not feel compelled to rant. The rest was fine disaster-flick fare. And Mario Puzo certainly knows how to push his audiences.

17. We are not being told how close we came to living like Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four
The Republicans and the Bush Administration laid the ground work for some incredibly bad Government powers. We were only saved by grace that the Republicans were finally defeated and an honest Democratic President was elected.

It ain't over by any means, but at least now we have a chance.

21. Telling us the truth would quicken the panic
I believe "they" think: Better the sheep feel the grass is still green and sugar-coated.

Me? I lean more toward feline than ovine, and I have moved my emergency funds to my local credit union. I don't don't know if that will protect my little nest egg, but I did it anyway.

I guess I'm just a cat on a hot tin roof.
