Hardball: Trying To Defend GWB's Record, Frank Gaffney Blames Saddam For Oklahoma City Bombing
MATTHEWS: The polling that took place before we attacked, conducted by “Time” and CNN, showed that 72 percent of the American people, nearly three quarters, believed it was likely that Saddam Hussein was involved in the attack on us 9/11. How do you think they got that idea, that somehow going to war with Iraq was getting even for 9/11?

GAFFNEY: Well, as I said, he kept saying that he was going to try to get even against us for Desert Storm, so it wouldn‘t be unreasonable for people to conclude maybe that that‘s what he was doing. There‘s also circumstantial evidence, not proven by any means, but nonetheless some pretty compelling circumstantial evidence of Saddam Hussein‘s Iraq being involved with the people who perpetrated both the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center and even the Oklahoma City bombing.

1. 'SOME people' say it was Gaffney who planned that bombing
bought all the materials, rented the truck and turned it over to his cell to finish up the job.

11. Yeah that's right. I've heard it said that Gaffney & his enemy combatant pal...
Michael Ledeen planned it all down at their resort, Elohim City.

13. I am fairly certain that there is a mountain of evidence
implicating Gaffney in the Olympic bombing as well.

2. I hate these lying, distorting, obfuscating people.
How can they live with themselves?
Their moral maturity has not developed beyond the sixth grade.

4. Is there ANYTHING a conservative chatterbox can't say?
You bet, you'll see Gaffney again on some program or other, bloviating and pontificating. I am convinced that there is just no way in the world batshit crazy conservatives can damage their credibility.

6. Richard Clarke said he couldn't discount evidence Terry Nichols learned bombmaking via Al Qaida
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 11:35 AM by KittyWampus
and that Nichols had valid Middle Eastern connections to terrorist activities.

However, it seems every state and dictator over in the Middle East eventually gets used as a convenient whipping boy and scapegoat for the Saudis.

................................

"A Philippine undercover operative and one of his wives claims that Terry Nichols, later convicted for the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, meets with al-Qaeda bomber Ramzi Yousef in the Philippines at these times. The operative, Edwin Angeles, was the second in command in the militant group Abu Sayyaf from 1991 to 1995 while secretly working for Philippine intelligence at the same time (see 1991-Early February 1995). In 1995, after the Oklahoma City bombing, he will claim in a videotaped interrogation that in late 1992 and early 1993 there are meetings in the southern Philippines between Yousef, Nichols, and a second would-be American terrorist named John Lepney. There are additional meetings with the same people and others in late 1994."

................................

".... A Philippine undercover operative will later claim that Terry Nichols, who will be convicted for a major role in the Oklahoma City bombing, met with Murad, Yousef, and others in the Philippines in 1994, and discussed blowing up a building in Oklahoma and several other locations (see Late 1992-Early 1993 and Late 1994). Counterterrorism “tsar” Richard Clarke will later comment, “Could have been introduced to ? We do not know, despite some FBI investigation. We do know that Nichols’s bombs did not work before his Philippine stay and were deadly when he returned.” Mike Johnston, a lawyer representing the Oklahoma City bombing victims’ families, will later comment, “Why should Murad be believed? For one thing, Murad made his ‘confession’ voluntarily and spontaneously. Most important, Murad tied Ramzi Yousef to the Oklahoma City bombing long before Terry Nichols was publicly identified as a suspect.” Also on this day, Mohammed Jamal Khalifa, an associate of Yousef and Murad who is being held in the US, is moved from a low security prison to a maximum security prison. But despite these potential links to Muslim militants, only five days after the Oklahoma City bombing the New York Times will report, “Federal officials said today that there was no evidence linking people of the Muslim faith or of Arab descent to the bombing here.” Murad’s claim apparently will not be reported in any newspaper until two years later. "

9. Gaffney is a very crazy and dangerous man. I thought I heard
him mention OK City but wasn't sure and didn't have it recorded. Tweety should have caught that line and challenged it.

14. Exactly what is the difference between Gaffney
And a mental patient rambling on about "black helicopters" and "chemtrails"?

I think there's only "circumstantial evidence" that he's sane.

16. About the OKC bombings -there was supposedly a John Doe 2 at the site who was thought to be an Iraqi
....brought here by PAPA BUSH after the first gulf war.

There is a site devoted to this by Jayna Davis, a former OKC NBC new reporter.

21. What Gaffney brought up was a theory bandied about at the time
There are people, I dont know how credible, that believe there to be an Iraqi connection, the question should be why didn't we hear more about it if it was so credible and what happened to John Doe number 2? There was a lot of talk about him in the weeks after the bombing then nothing? I think that should be the relevant question. If Gaffney is saying in 2009 that there was evidence of an Iraqi connection then why wasn't it pursued at least in the public. Wouldn't this have been a great reason for the nec-cons to hang their hats on to go to war with Iraq? More questions than answers on this one.

18. I think Saddam is also responsible for global warming, but of course
Gaffney wouldn't say that since he probably doesn't believe in global warming. If the Easter bunny doesn't turn up this year I bet that's Saddam, too.
