GM doesn't need bailout money.

GM union deal 'does not make enough concessions'.

http://kstp.com/news/stories/S820584.shtml?cat=206">Ford union agrees to wage freezes, end of bonuses.

That's all this is. That's all it ever was.

They are busting the unions.

1. Are they also ducking obligations to pensions and workers who have already retired?
Seems there is plenty of $$ for the guys in the big suites, but they sure resist honoring commitments to the people who actually build/built product.

3. I guess Henry Ford's adage of anyone who builds a Ford should be able
to afford to buy one is long gone...

5. Yep. Today's corporate geinuses don't get it that workers without wages are not consumers
or CUSTOMERS.

Could they tell me again why THEY are worth those outrageous incomes? I can't get that part.

2. It's going on everywhere.
My city is laying off AFSME and other union employees over the issue of privatizing certain areas of city work, usually the ones at the bottom of the payscale. My husband is an AFSME member and was just laid off because the union would not agree with the city on privatization. AFSCME gave back about $2500 per worker in benefits but it wasn't enough. There had to be privatization and this AFSCME wouldn't do.

PS I live in a very liberal city...sad, isn't it?

4. I think it's bigger than that.
Call me a crazy conspiracy theorist if you like- but I was looking at the whole situation, ie the economy in the tank and wondering "Who is big enough to do it and what do they want?"

Answers: The oil companies and what they want is to drive the federal government so far into the pit that they have to sell the only thing they have left: the national parks.

11. Yup. Empty-fearmongering because you want other people to do your dirty deeds for you.
I've been sayin that at people who seem to say things that only incite fear or worse... for years too.

7. Maybe when they break the union
all these anti union Asian auto buyers that absolutely cream at the thought of driving a non union Asian auto, will start to buy domestic.

8. yep. gm made a profit in 2007, & took a one-time tax charge thing to make it look like they
were losing money - to get tax exemptions...

it's all one big globo-car company anyway, with the same big players profiting behind the scenes.
