Lawmaker: Trade help with Olympics for concealed carry law in Illinois
By Mike Riopell
[email protected]

SPRINGFIELD -- State Rep. Brandon Phelps says if downstate lawmakers help Chicago vie for the 2016 Olympics, they should get something in return - perhaps a law allowing Illinoisans to carry concealed weapons.

"They're going to ask us for a lot," the Harrisburg Democrat said Thursday.

Four proposals aimed at allowing Illinoisans to carry concealed weapons have been introduced this year. But, long running philosophical disagreements over gun rights between downstate lawmakers and their Chicago colleagues could keep them from becoming law.

Phelps hopes some horse-trading could benefit gun owners and Olympic supporters.

"We'd like to have something in return," he said.

1. i think we should pass the law saying they have to be in plain sight!
just like the good old wild wild west...shoot outs at the local salon or fast food stop.

i posted yesterday that illinois traffic stops are bad enough now and if concealed is pasted it will be guns draw at all stops. out here in in the hometown of ronnie it is two or three patrol cars for 90% of the traffic stops.i can`t imagine what the big city and suburban law enforcement thinkl of this law

the pro conceal law people here on du had no problem with cops drawing guns during routine traffic stops.

2. Politics is the art of compromise.
I don't see why this is automatically a bad idea.
