Did anyone see the Washington Journal segment just now asking
if Obama was right to say we should talk to moderate elements in the Taliban? It was set up like a push poll and people were supposed to call in their outrage but it didn't happen! Most callers said it was a good idea. I thought the host was going to have a stroke. It was nice to see that the American public isn't stupid to a man.

1. Of course there was that one lady who called in as an afterthought.
She had her panties in a knot because she thought Obama would invite the Taliban to a state dinner at the White House. OMG. I watched Alexandra Pelosi's short film on HBO yesterday afternoon and I bet that lady was one of the stars.

3. Talking to moderates happens all the time in politics.
Why do you feel that talking to moderate elements in the Taliban is so shocking? During the past presidental cycle, plenty of romancing went on betwee both major US political parties; it was focused on the moderates / centrists. To compare the radical religious right in America with the Taliban in Afghanistan is not an entirely unfair comparison. Al Queda is a different story. Al Queda, or the "base" is a data base of soldiers who fought with Bin Ladin against the Russians. It would be tough to find moderates in that crowd, but I am sure the CIA is trying to do just that.

Divide and conquor. If handled correctly, it is a great strategy. The bushtapo lumped them all together in an ignorant attempt to kill them all off. Lump the extremists together first. There are fewer to deal with and you might just pick up some help from a few insiders.

5. I don't feel that way. But, the question seemed to be pulling
for a negative answer. WJ does that all the time since Obama has been elected.
