25. Yes, the ones in the US tend to be hard-bitten Protestants...

of one or another flavor -- they're sponsored heavily by their brethren in the US in their efforts to immigrate. Reagan got the ball rolling by pushing for them to be able to come to the US on grounds of religious persecution, and of course the current regime in Moscow is none too sweet toward sects other than Russian Orthodox.

Loved the sign, by the way. I'm an atheist, but it doesn't pay to be so earnest as not to be able to have some fun.

There goes the stereotype that gays are automatically good at design. (Probably a good thing, too.)

If they had done it without cramming the type together in weird ways, like it was a 60's acid-head poster, it would work; it's a great slogan. But the design makes it hard to read.

40. This isn't art, dammit. This is communication.

Getting the message means making the sign recognizable in ONE SECOND. If it gets too hard to read (and that sign took a good five seconds to read) people will give up and the message will go unheard.

In fact, that represents exactly the problem with Democrats. They are more interested in expressing their message in a pretty form, and getting praise for their artistry, rather than actually getting their message to the people. THIS is a sign that communicates quickly and effectively (and I even hesitate at the Old Latin type at the head but it's at least a little stylish):

Rather... it could be that the signs she holds is far more personal than you or I could ever know.

The woman on the "stop teh gays" side has that "you will do what *I* say or else" quality - almost physically going at him - force. The guy talking to her from the equal rights side is animated but centered, there's no force about it.

IMHO the body language alone in this picture describes both sides of this debate perfectly. Prop 8 proponents have the goal of forcing others to live their private lives by their rules. Those fighting it just want to be be who they are to live their own lives in peace.
