Local news reporter says "Democrat" rep instead of "Democratic" rep on air
Not to nitpick too much, I say "Democratic" representative versus "Democrat" rep is correct. What say you? This report is regarding a gas tax hike proposal in Oregon. About 1:15 seconds into the video, you can hear it.

This is all in fun, but I did email the reporter just to question his usage.

1. This seems like something that would be in a style guide
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 09:45 PM by DireStrike
Reporters should be nervous about getting that correct, among other such things.

Notwithstanding of course the bitter partisan meaning it carries. That should be noted in the style guide, and reporters should avoid it.

2. "All in fun," my ass... it is not only ignorant but, in many cases
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 09:47 PM by hlthe2b
intentional... In case you don't know, this has been a concerted effort pre-dating, but made overt by Gingrich to denigrate the Democratic Party, with an childish stress on "(c)RAT".... You SHOULD call them on this. And, NO, it is NOT all in fun.

5. It sounded correct to me.
He said, "Democrat Terri Byer is on the transportation committee..."

This would be incorrect: "Democratic Terri Byer is on the transportation committee..."

8. Oh, you're right.
Well, it's possible it was just carelessness on his part, as I'm not seeeing an obvious RW bias on this news channel. I used to live in Portland, BTW.

7. It is a matter of respect. I refer to people as they wish to be referred
not how I feel like referring to them. I a woman desires to be called 'Mrs.' or 'Ms.' out of respect I do as they ask. I refer to races or those with different sexual preferences as they wish to be referred to. If we have learned nothing from the civil rights, feminist and other struggles, at the very least all people should be treated with respect.
So when repugs do that they are publically showing their disrespect and disdain for their fellow human beings. Which in turn reflects back on them as cowardly little bullies.
One funny thing is that you seldom see them do it in the presence of anyone who might correct them. They are simply too coeardly. If they know that saying that to our faces would make us mad, then they know it is wrong.
And of course the biggest coward of all is named Limbaugh.

9. When people say 'Democrat' Party
or 'Democrat' Representative, they're one of two things:
1. An idiot who heard somebody else say it and is so stupid that they pick it up, or
2. A fucking asshole trying to do damage.

Either way, fuck them in the eyesocket.
