What one belief/notion/idea by a specific wingnut triggers your "Not worth my time" mechanism?
Edited on Mon Mar-02-09 09:23 PM by Liberal Veteran
For me it is Gitmo. The argument usually goes something like this: Why should I care what happens to those people in Gitmo? If they are in Gitmo they must be terrorists! We don't even need a trial or evidence for them! It's obvious that they are guilty because we only send terrorists to Gitmo!

The moment that argument is given, I know I haven't the patience to try to bring them "to the light" of reason, as it were.

What's your trigger?

5. Yeah, that's how I feel about people who say socialism "just doesn't work."
Now there's an astute analysis! Not just clueless, but poorly read.

I've heard more than a few variations of that one and that pretty much ends any discussion with that person. Ever.

6. Anyone who uses the phrase "hard-wired" generally is making shit up to support status quo.
Greed is hard-wired! Homophobia is hard-wired! And my favorite: rape is hard-wired!

It's a silly metaphor used by popular science.

Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 08:49 AM by ThomWV
Not worth listening to.

http://www.opusdei.org/

Here is what they are afraid of:

"Opus Dei is a Catholic institution founded by Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Its mission is to spread the message that work and the circumstances of everyday life are occasions for growing closer to God, for serving others, and for improving society."

22. Guns! They're gonna take ALL the guns.
I was talking to my brother and in the middle of the conversation, he starts screaming about this. I was wondering what massive gun bill had slipped my notice. Had I been in a coma? He was talking about leading the rebellion if they came.

I called him back later after I thought he would be coherent. I told him to stand down. Nobody was coming to take ALL THE GUNS. I told him he had been in much more trouble from the Bushites. I told him they were trying to ban assault weapons, but that wasn't even a sure thing. I suggested he rethink the rebellion. He wasn't Robert E. Lee, Francis Marion or Stonewall Jackson and was liable to get his ass handed to him. Then who would take care of his 11 cats.

Sheesh!
