NH Sen. Denley resigns after DWI arrest
Source: New England Cable News

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A first-term New Hampshire state senator has resigned after being arrested on drunken driving charges.

Republican William Denley of the Sanbornville section of Wakefield said he will be too distracted to appropriately perform his duties in the Senate. He represents 17 towns in the eastern part of the state.

Senate Republican Leader Peter Bragdon said Denley brought a new and fresh voice to the Senate and will be missed. But he said he agrees with Denley's decision to resign.

A special election will have to be held to replace Denley.

4. State Senate
This is the NH state senate district that covers the eastern part of the White Mountains and part of the Lakes Region.

Definitely winnable. The vote last fall was 14,281 to 13,755.

6. It's beginning to look like the tide has turned on the Republicans
The rise and fall of the Republican Party has been bizarre, yet it has all happened in just the first ten years of the 21st Century. It always frustrated me that Bush and the neocons just got away with crime after crime and every outrage they could think of. No matter how jawdroppingly stupid or irrational or obviously stupid their actions were they kept winning and winning. It was like the whole universe was helping them and no amount of logic or resistance could stop them. It felt like the world had gone insane.

Now they are imploding just as fast, so I wonder what has happened to cause this? They're falling like flies but not because of the people. Because of their own actions. So even if we do nothing to them on an individual basis they're still imploding within the Republican party which is making it weaker and weaker.

In the year 2000 no one would have believed all this could happen. In the year 2004 no one would have believed that the Republican party would be so smashed in only a few years.

11. Perhaps the tide has turned
There was a time not so very long ago when a Republican office holder wouldn't have given a tin shit about getting arrested, and would have stuck it out, practically daring people to take action against him. Apparently Republicans aren't feeling quite so bullet proof.

7. REPUBLICON 'family values' strike again
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 05:27 PM by SpiralHawk
Puh-lease spare Americans any more lectures about the imagined 'superiority' of republicon homelander wide-stance, diaper-clad, DWI Family Values.

America wants to hear No More from the Latter Day Pharisees who style themselves as 'conservative' (bwa ha ha ha ha) republicons.

10. Agreed about the Pharisees...but I don't think alcoholism follows political lines
Just as many on the left as on the right...better to use a medical/psychological lens here, not a political one.

Meanwhile, it would be nice to see the district swing D. Have to pick up any silver dollars you find lying in the street. :)

8. Sorry, but I don't put a DWI
on the same level as bribery, hate speech, etc. Members of every political parties have been known to have alcohol problems.
