8. Other: consume small amounts infrequently, but used to have an addiction
to it. I'd go through a six pack of diet coke a DAY years ago-but the caffeine gave me headaches 9especially if I went without it) and the Nutrasweet aggravated my fibromyalgia. Quitting the stuff was hard, but I finally did it!

20. Tea, not coffee
I've found that a cup of tea in the morning (and water during the day) seems to have a much better overall result for my health, wakefulness and energy. I usually make coffee on the weekend and once in a while buy an espresso drink before or during a lengthy drive. But all in all, breakfast tea is much more mellow than the java habit.

I drink way too much caffeine than I should. I've tried to stop, but I'm obviously addicted to it because I get very bad headaches if I don't get a cup of coffee.

25. Evil...pure evil
for me, anyway.

I do love my coffee, but have to drink decaf because the regular stuff really messes with my anxiety disorders.

Sometimes I have trouble with the decaf as well (because it's not totally caffeine free) but not very often.

32. My neurologist told me not to drink any after 2pm.
I went to see her about some insomnia I had a few years ago (turns out I have obstructive sleep apnea; I should really lose some weight) and told her that I didn't drink any caffiene after 6. She was like "6? 2!" Just thought I'd pass that along.

What's interesting is I don't think she knew what time I went to bed then. But there you have it.

I'm serious. I can kill a six-pack of Jolt cola in one sitting, a whole pot of coffee, a gallon of tea...and not feel a damn thing. I would LOVE to have coffee jitters. Never had, never will.

34. You DO realize that those who vote in favor of its effects may be totally addicted, don't you?
Caffeine is a soft drug. It is highly addictive, however, its withdrawal is not very severe (although it seems very intense for a day or two).

I went off it last month and was amazed. In my late 30s, I had begun to wake up in the morning with an achy feeling (probably inflammation), as well as joint issues. A few days off the coffee and all my symptoms disappeared! Just like that! Coffee is highly acidic, as is the loads of sugar I dump in the mix. Imagine if I were the average person who runs to a doctor and goes on some medication, not thinking about what CAUSED my health issue. No, I figured it was the coffee. I just didn't think it would be this dramatic!

37. Consume it. Love it. NEED IT!
It's a drug and I'm addicted. Health ways it's better for me than meth so there's that!

I have 6 different ways to prepare coffee and a whole drawer of teas. My favorite right now being an Afghan black infused with cardamon. I think it's time for an espresso if I can get this sleeping cat to move.

38. Research proves it has positive health effects (in moderation)
I drink 3-5 cups alomst everyday, but when I don't have it I do not physically need it. Kinda like weed.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/05/health/05brod.html?ex=1218600000&en=92d137526562632f&ei=5070&emc=eta1

Hydration. It was long thought that caffeinated beverages were diuretics, but studies reviewed last year found that people who consumed drinks with up to 550 milligrams of caffeine produced no more urine than when drinking fluids free of caffeine. Above 575 milligrams, the drug was a diuretic.

Heart disease. Heart patients, especially those with high blood pressure, are often told to avoid caffeine, a known stimulant. But an analysis of 10 studies of more than 400,000 people found no increase in heart disease among daily coffee drinkers, whether their coffee came with caffeine or not.

In fact, among 27,000 women followed for 15 years in the Iowa Women’s Health Study, those who drank one to three cups a day reduced their risk of cardiovascular disease by 24 percent, although this benefit diminished as the quantity of coffee rose.

Hypertension. Caffeine induces a small, temporary rise in blood pressure. But in a study of 155,000 nurses, women who drank coffee with or without caffeine for a decade were no more likely to develop hypertension than noncoffee drinkers. However, a higher risk of hypertension was found from drinking colas.

Cancer. Panic swept this coffee-dependent nation in 1981 when a Harvard study tied the drink to a higher risk of pancreatic cancer. Coffee consumption temporarily plummeted, and the researchers later concluded that perhaps smoking, not coffee, was the culprit.

In an international review of 66 studies last year, scientists found coffee drinking had little if any effect on the risk of developing pancreatic or kidney cancer. In fact, another review suggested that compared with people who do not drink coffee, those who do have half the risk of developing liver cancer.

And a study of 59,000 women in Sweden found no connection between coffee, tea or caffeine consumption and breast cancer.

Recent disease-related findings can only add to coffee’s popularity. A review of 13 studies found that people who drank caffeinated coffee, but not decaf, had a 30 percent lower risk of Parkinson’s disease.

Another review found that compared with noncoffee drinkers, people who drank four to six cups of coffee a day, with or without caffeine, had a 28 percent lower risk of Type 2 diabetes. This benefit probably comes from coffee’s antioxidants and chlorogenic acid.
