He called the gay-rights movement "probably the greatest threat to America," likened gay activists to Muslim radicals and dubbed same-sex relationships "abominations."

Now Sen. Chris Buttars finds himself in a familiar place: under fire amid demands he step down.

Last year, the NAACP called for Buttars to resign after comments he made on the Senate floor about a complex school-funding bill, saying, "This baby is black . . . It's a dark, ugly thing."

But Buttars kept his seat and won re-election in November.

"It is obvious that he believes he can say and do anything that he wishes without any consequences," said Jeanetta Williams, president of the NAACP's Salt Lake branch. "His words -- as before -- are despicable." ....

"It's the beginning of the end," the West Jordan (UT) Republican said. "Oh, it's worse than that. Sure. Sodom and Gomorrah was localized. This is worldwide."

I have a gay brother whom I love very much, and his partner is absolutely, unequivocally one of the family.

When a dinosaur like Sen. Buttars sounds off, I feel my blood pressure heading for the stratosphere -- that's my family he's publicly hating. It makes me nuts, and I certainly know how my brother feels when he hears shit like this. How dare this man -- any man -- sit in judgement like this.

When this old lizard tosses out lines like, "It's the beginning of the end," I certainly hope it is, for his sake, inasmuch as he's long overdue to be extinct. :nuke:

On a bright note, I just learned today that a friend of my mom's is going to London with her family. Apparently one of her gay sons is getting married there. Yay for England!

(I say "one of her gay sons" because two of her three sons are gay; the straight one is my age and I knew him in high school.)

but I consider the 'religion' to be a giant anti-gay hate vehicle over the last few decades. I'll never forget the day two missionaries threw me into a lake when they found out I couldn't swim. Clearly I have little love for them, or people from Utah like this.
