Just heard Reid put the nomination through.

1. I'm not entirely sure what just happened.
It passed out of committee earlier. I believe Reid is scheduling Solis's nomination cloture vote.

5. You can't do it without confirmation if the Senate is in session.
You can only do those "Captain Kangaroo" appointments during recess.

3. No, someone has a hold on the nomination
Which means someone objects to the routine unanimous consent request to bring the nomination to the floor of the senate for discussion and a vote. So Senator Reid has filed a cloture motion in order to bring the measure up. Should that cloture motion get 60 votes, then the Senate has 30 hours to discuss the nomination and then proceed to a vote on whether or not she will be confirmed.

4. No, Reid was just going over the schedule
of the issues that would be addressed once they return from their recess, which begins in a few minutes and ends at 10 a.m. on Monday the 23rd.
