Meet Tony Snow's temporary replacement-Dana Perino

Q: How did you become a press secretary?

"I came to Washington D.C. in August of 1995. I worked for Scott McInnis (former Colorado congressman) for two and a half months as a staff assistant.

And the Colorado Avalanche were playing their first game against the Washington Capitals,
and Coors had bought a whole bunch of tickets.
And the Colorado delegation got on a whole bunch of buses and went to the game,
and I ended up sitting next to a guy who said, “So, what do you want to do?” I said, “I’d like some day to work my way up to a press secretary position.”
And he said, “Do you know Congressman Dan Schaefer?” And he said, “His press secretary just got a new job.” I met Schaefer’s office the next day."

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

Well, like today ,

Let’s talk about today.
I get up at 4:30 a.m., shot from a cannon.
It really is like being shot from a cannon every morning.
You don’t have time to hit the snooze alarm, ever.
So, I hop up and I go get the newspaper
and hop on the elliptical machine,
and read the newspaper while I get some exercise.
I read the Washington Post
and the Wall Street Journal at home.
I can get ready now in 22 minutes. My husband
and I only have one car.
As a Westerner, I always had my own car,
but now we share one car.
He takes me to work.
He works from home, so that’s easier for him.

Then I get in here
and read the rest of the papers…
the national papers…
The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Times.
Sometimes I make it to the Financial Times.
Not always, because by 7 a.m., I have my first meeting with Tony
where we go over the news of the day -
to find out what sort of reporting we need to do,
what fact-gathering we need to do.
Then senior staff is at 7:30 a.m. Usually Tony goes, but sometimes I fill in for him."

1. little snot
"I love the president’s philosophy of state’s rights. I guess the bottom line is that everybody’s equal. Nobody’s better than anyone else. No gloating. Teamwork."

He loved state's rights so much that his team of thugs convinced the supreme court that George W's rights prevailed over the rights of the people of the state of Florida to govern its own elections, thus nullifying the election of 2000.

3. I agree with you but she gives me hope because she is
gonna have to handle the press corp during Tony's absence
during this crucial times for the white house.

Her cadance really does sound like a valley girl,
I hope I was able to relay that in her interview.

Thank you Helen for all your work and I can't wait for the next press conference.

And the first reporter to look as if he's backing off the *hard questions* because she is a woman is going to have a shoe thrown at the back of their heads.

9. I have a soft spot for her.
I saw her one day when she was subbing for Snow. She was both kind and deferential to Helen, getting down on one knee in front of Helen, to talk to her.

11. I assume you're talking about the kind of bedtime sleepy shot
that comes in a small glass specially made for the purpose.

13. Actually, Randi Rhodes propagates the rumor that the Shrub is
medicated awake in the morning and asleep in the evening by the manchurian candidate doctor by injection. And she's perfectly serious. It kind of makes sense: Could you sleep, knowing all the crap that you've screwed up? And can the handlers depend on the chimp to keep his cool and look human every time they shove a mic under his nose if he were not sleeping on schedule?

Once you're an addict, it's pretty tough to go it cold turkey, especially with all the pressure he's under.

But, as I said, it's an unsubstantiated rumor.....

14. Scott McInnis: the asshole thug who tried to bully Pete Stark
and then cried foul. Remember this? This was when the Republicans called the cops on the Democrats to keep them from meeting to discuss a bill that was being rammed through in the dead of night. McInnis is a typical domineering dick who thrives on intimidation and hides behind false slights to justify monarchic tactics. Mercifully, he's gone. Anyone who worked for him is tainted by definition.
