ROVE - 95% Of E-mails on RNC-Based Account (GWB43) - May Have Forfeited Claims Of Exec Privilege
Edited on Sat Mar-24-07 09:05 AM by kpete
Rove's E-mails

Alexis Simendinger writes in a National Journal story (subscription required): "White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove may have forfeited potential claims of executive privilege over the dismissals of eight U.S. attorneys-- if he communicated about the latter outside the White House e-mail system, using his Republican National Committee e-mail account or RNC equipment. Or at least that's a legal possibility posed by rapidly advancing electronic technology and the evolving work habits of busy White House officials. . . .

"According to one former White House official familiar with Rove's work habits, the president's top political adviser does 'about 95 percent' of his e-mailing using his RNC-based account. Many White House officials, including aides in the Political Affairs Office, use the RNC account as an alternative to their official government e-mail addresses to help keep their official and political duties separate. Although some White House officials use dual sets of electronic devices for that purpose.

He'll be in a bind if anyone finds that he's an anonymous poster.

3. Interesting. I heard Rove talking about this at some stupid
fundraiser (about the whole attorney issue - nor the emails)

My thought then was - how can he claim exec privilege when he is talking about the subject in public?

7. INVESTIGATORS PLEASE NOTE, White House Officials USE OUTSIDE EMAIL ADDRESSES A LOT
To avoid scrutiny, open records laws and other avenues of exposure, the Bush administration has long been using outside email accounts to hide evidence.

Colin fucking Powell had an AOL account that he gave Woodward to contact him about WMD issues during the initial months of the invasion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An AOL ACCOUNT!!!! (It was in Woodward's latest book.)

So, we need to ask the White House for a list of ALL email addresses EVER used during the period in question, so we can properly search every corner for the real evidence in the US Atty scandal. Because it is OBVIOUS that these crooks would use the official email addresses for cover stories and obtuse comments and use private emails and other means for communicating real issues.

ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY!!!!

I know, I mean I can just guarantee that those sanctimonious fuckheads would give us "the complete list" and conveniently leave off one or two.

I also know with certainty that they would fuck up, and leave an avenue available for discovering those one or two.

9. It would be quite funny if this is proven true! Talk about a plan backfiring!
But there's something else that's important to remember about "Executive Privilege". If you check FindLaw.com, in John Dean's most recent article, he said "Everyone needs to remember, Executive Privilege ONLY covers communications with the PRESIDENT! In fact Dean even joked when he was onOlberman's show that Rove would like you to believe it covers even conversations with the pizza shop when he places an order!

47. Yep, and there's more..
snip>

Moreover, in explaining its holding, the Court reasoned as follows: "hen the privilege depends solely on the broad, undifferentiated claim of public interest in the confidentiality of such conversations, a confrontation with other values arises. Absent a claim of need to protect military, diplomatic, or sensitive national security secrets, we find it difficult to accept the argument that even the very important interest in confidentiality of Presidential communications is significantly diminished by production of such material for in camera inspection…."

Not only did this holding result in the rejection of an executive privilege claim, it is also quite vague, and it applies to a judicial, not a legislative subpoena. Nevertheless, Attorney General Smith drew upon it to opine, consistent with the philosophy of protecting presidential prerogatives, that "he interest of Congress in obtaining information for oversight purposes is, I believe, considerably weaker than its interest when specific legislative proposals are in question."

http://writ.news.findlaw.com/dean/20070323.html

I think they have a huge problem with this argument, at least I hope they do.

EVERYONE in the world has an e-mail address that's separate from their work e-mail. I don't understand how this helps us prove anything? I also don't understand why my hair gets wet when it rains. It rains, then my hair gets wet, I don't see the connection

I'm being sarcastic, of course, because I recommended this tasty tidbit. Does anyone have a picture of Rove going up in smoke?

44. My guess
Using RNC e-mail would suggest it's the business of the Republic party, not the White House. The Republic party doesn't have any executive privilege.

I have work e-mail and personal e-mail. I consider anything I say on work e-mail to reflect on my employer.

59. Because he's "Bush's Brain"....
without Rove to pull Bush's strings we might as well have a cardboard cut-out in the Oval Office. Actually, I'd prefer a cardboard cut-out. This country could run itself better with a piece of cardboard in the Oval Office than Bush.

It was a two for one deal: you get Bush, you get his brain (Rove) as well. Pretty crappy deal, if you ask me.

19. April 2006 - Rove was 'reassigned'. Is that when he (nearly) stopped using
Edited on Sat Mar-24-07 09:38 AM by higher class
.gov and started using the RNC e-mail account (or even more e-mail accounts that we're not yet aware of)?

If yes, could his reassignment from WH policy to midterm elections by working for/with/as the RNC have been planned to give them the 'freedom' to communicate without a trace in the government archives?

I think Bolten may be the pivot point in the coordination of this 'gate' we're discussing so intently.

I think we should know exactly who is/has been paying Rove before we figure out how protected the WH is or isn't.

We may all be assuming he still is in his original job with his original check issuer.

And we should know if he is bringing in other income in any form.

The following was in the Guardian in April of 2006. (aside - why does the Guardian see things more clearly and faster than the press.)

April 20, 2006
So no more policy role for Karl Rove, the political guru whose attachment to George Bush is so legendary and so close that enemies mutter darkly about computer chips implanted in the president's brain. But does Rove's reassignment to planning for next November's midterm elections amount to a slap in the face for the man who crafted a Republican majority that could last for generations?
Apparently not. Plus ca change, was the consenus in the mainstream press. In the blogosphere, Rove's reassignment was seen as game of musical chairs.
The reduction in Rove's official role, and the resignation of the White House press secretary, Scott McClellan, are among the first in a series of personnel changes set in motion by the new White House chief of staff, Josh Bolten. But don't expect any new faces. Rove, despite the loss of one of his titles, remains Bush's main political adviser - his Boy Genius when the president is feeling kindly disposed, or Turd Blossom in moments of temper.
Bolten, who is now running the White House, is a member in good standing of Bush's inner circle. For those who await a major change in direction from this administration, it may be worth remembering Bush's defence of Donald Rumsfeld earlier this week: "I'm the decider, and I decide what's best."

ok, they can send e-mails, but they seem to have had no clue that the messages they were sending back and forth were really not "secure" if they were using a non-governmental server. BushCo just don't seem to really grasp the real uses of the Internet, or even the US gov. intranets. I am sure with a bit of digging, enterprising geeks can find out all sorts of dirt on BushCo.

56. WHOA...Weren't they supposed to bring Integrity and Honor back to the White House???
WTF Happened?...Did someone remind the President....Did he hear the reminder??? Did he understand???

After nearly 7 years...there is no evidence of Honor and Integrity in the White House...only cunning, deception, stonewalling, secrecy, plotting, selfinterest, greed, theft, and who knows what....

Damn....

Means he can commit any crime he wants.

And also he has the resources and power of the entire
world at his fingertips. He can concoct any alibi and
evidence he so wishes.
