Creative retort to "global warming is a religion"
I really need a nice, one-line zinger. I thought maybe "if global warming is religion, then so is gravity" or something along those lines. Any ideas? Just for fun!

8. It seems only the religiously delusional are the ones who are saying those kinds things.
They also claim that atheism is a religion too.

Just tell them they seem to label everything that they don't understand a religion.

Let that stew a while before you respond.

12. Agreed. These kinds of denialist talking points are getting
waaaayyyyy too common. I'm worried that the denialists have the edge in the public discourse unfortunately.

14. I've never understood why those types think calling something a 'religion'
is an insult or a form of debunking - are they implying that 'religions' are bogus?

20. They assume everyone else is a god-hating atheist
And that calling it a religion will scare all us god-hating atheists away from the subject, or at least - in their imaginations - cause us to tear down our god-hating atheist ways.

I'm not sure why they think I'm an atheist, I believe in way more gods than they do.

25. It is their way of twisting every conversation into a conversation about religion.
If this is allowed to happen, it will always end with a demand that their beliefs be "respected" and the original subject long lost and forgotten.

27. Well, perhaps your retort could be along the lines of "If you think empirical
science is a religion, then clearly you don't understand the concept of religion - perhaps you should spend more time in bible study. Now, lets talk about (insert AGW topic here)."

I guess I understand their motivation - if they can make climate change something that is taken on faith, they can dismiss it as misguided belief. Your snappy retort needs to clearly separate faith-based and observation-based modes of thinking...

29. I agree
It is not that they are saying it is a religious believe. They are saying it is another religion. I.E. there is Christianity and there's global warming. Either you are one than the other. It's a easy way to convince a "good" Christians to abandon science ideas. Turn these ideas into competing religious dogma. It's an interesting tactic that has worked surprising well for a very long time.

9. Then that means that GW deniers are a fanatical cult
Sort of the "Jim Jones" of anti-science evangelizing.

Except they're the ultimate cowards. They're willing to sacrifice their children and grandchildren's lives to just to prove their point.

At least Jim Jones had the decency to turn the gun on himself.

13. That looks to me like it would be a good one, except ...
... it plays into their frame of "everything is a religion."

I am sure the conversation would devolve into a my god's dick is bigger than your god's dick, etc.

This plays into their framing of legitimizing religion as a topic of discussion for serious people.

16. Judges 1:19
"yeah but Yahweh got run over by Grandma in an Iron Chariot"?

Judges 1:19 And the Lord was with Judah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

Probably too obtuse, but that's me....

21. Where's my write off for donating to climate crises organizations then?
If it's a religion, then it gets to compete for the tax-exempt donations. If "libralism" is a religion like Ann Coulter says, why can't I write off my ACLU donations?

Hell, make all of it a religon. Make DU a religion, if I get another write-off! I'll be pagan and have all these heathen religions and write offs. Great!

28. Global warming is science and religion does not accept science
thus, global warming can't be a religion.
..........
If global warming were a religion, then scientists would worship Oxygen while fundys would worship all the things that create Carbon.

That never goes down well with the anti global warming idiots.
Reading up on what Max Weber had to say about it will help you shut them down.

32. As a rule, is the person asserting that
a religious person? If so, then what is their beef? I mean that wouldn't a religious person be disparaging religion if they used that criticism to disparage "climate change"?,
