The history channel and control of a population
well folks been thinking about this... WHY are we having this end of the world insanity?

It's all about control

Not the first time either. Think.. year 1000 the church was starting to loose control... and what did we see? Milleniarims took over with a passion in the Western World. Didn't last.

Now when Colon bumped into North America the Millenarian impulse, that lasted for seventy years or so, made sense. America was not mentioned in ANy biblical book... WTF over? So that one made sense.

But what is going on right now... is similar to what happened in the year 1000

Think about it... like clockwork the return should have happened, and has not

So the last hope is the Great Galactic Alignment when multiple calendars come to an end, because after all the ancients could not be sophisticated enough to be able to predict this alignment and use prophetic language as a metaphor, of course not... :sarcasm:

So yes, the exercise in the History Channel (paid by the right) is all about inducing mass hysteria and population control

Oh and it has an added benefit, global warming... it is god made

Been bugging me all this time, why are they running more and more of this crap and we all know that the RIGHT controls the history channel, like they do control a lot of our other media

Oh and if the world is coming to an end, why do people have to worry about anything?

See, neat package, and neat sociological experiment

Replace the Churches of the year 1000 with the History channel;, the exact same role of social control.

12. Seriously, I suspect that this has more to do with pushing some
upcoming movies than anything else. "2012" and "Knowing"

A couple months back it was all crystal skulls!

but they have been running the nostradamus programs for three to four years with increasing intensity

Granted, it takes that long to take a script from concept to final production... but... there is more to this than just doing movies...

Of course they could be pushing Shadowrun... a decade or two after it came out into the gaming scene

:-)

3. One of the advantages of not subscribing to cable TV...
It's nice to be disconnected from the collective conscious. I do catch "The Universe" episodes online though. I believe they come from the History Channel. Haven't really heard anything about the "end times" nonsense other than the usual.

7. One of the things i did with my thesis was read a bunch of millenarian crap
related to the discovery of the America's (and of course the older one)

And that is why this has a very similar taste to that

We just don't have the ever present holy mother church, with the wonderful messages on the walls, to tell us what to believe in

So we have LaHaye, Nostradamus now and all the time, the Mayan Calendar, and other Millenarian crap

You are getting it too... in a way, but not fed down to you in this direct way

Trust me, a thesis or two will be written about this in years and decades to come

49. Reverse Time Flow Factoid For The Win!
Since they controlled the time streams in the past, they must control the future too! Wait until they reverse the date, and we find ourselves in the year 9002. Then you'll know their victory is complete. (Hint: that Button film is just them laughing at us. They all live their lives backwards)

18. You're right about that too. That's very astute and never thought about it.

But the WWII programming was endless, with only the occasional educational show on ancient Egypt and the like. That's why it became unwatchable, but now that you mention the reasoning, it does place it in perspective. It's disgusting.

50. This is endless too - they've invented time travel
see post #10 for the exciting details of how men from the 12th and 13th centuries dominated the year 1000!

So, in reality, the apocalyptic coverage is endless - but due to the time loop, you don't realise it.

I like some stuff about 2012. It is not that I really believe it, it is just interesting. I personally think if anything were to happen on 2012 I don't think it is the end of the world scenario.

I do agree with you that in the next two years you will hear alot of apocalyptic talk to create fear in our population. A scared public is far easier to control, just look at the last 8 years.

As a writer they are a good place for fodder, and truthfully some of the stuff that happens in the real world would never be sold as a script, see last eight years...

But I am fascinated by all the crap that our media decides to push

Edited on Sun Jan-11-09 09:25 PM by Lint Head
with my sister. Basically her opinion was wilted with the facts. One thing I said was, where do you get the facts on the Rapture and the end of the world? It's not in the Bible. The Bible talks about the earth ending in fire which can basically be proved through science with the earth being consumed by the Sun in billions of years. I also said, "If someone with no arm is healed by an evangelist and that arm grows back don't you think that would be on YouTube by the next morning?" I didn't hear another word from that person and had a lovely laid back Christmas dinner.

the viewership of professional wrestling is going to control something?

They did stuff on tractor pulls and 19th century knifemaking, too-- was that all part of the plan?

More like they're searching for something that will help their ratings before they can do the mind control thing.

this endtimes stuff happens all the time-- so much it's ended up as a staple of New Yorker cartoons.

Actual millenia just make some of them more rabid, but at least once a century, ofttimes more, some prophet sees The End coming and there are enough assholes around to believe him and call it a movement.

46. Yeah that WAS the FIRST Great American Revival
Edited on Sun Jan-11-09 10:05 PM by nadinbrzezinski
difference is, this one is not limited to the US... though it has taken some specific American traits in the US... and will be known as the Second Great American Revival when all is said and done... not only that, it is starting to wane.

See the Jewish Right wing, talking about end of days stuff... which is kind of a no-no in Judaism, but that is besides the point

Take a looksie south of the border, were millennialism has become quite interesting... and taken on Guadalupan traits that make it fascinating, as it is starting to mix some elements of prehispanic culture, You think the Mayan Calendar is big here... you haven't lived.

And it has expanded to Central and South America as well

The major difference, this time Europe, for the most part, is not playing along, THAT MUCH... but the Muslim extreme right wing is playing games as well (which is strange for other reasons)
