H W Bush thought that Reagan was stupid and I agree with his assessment. H W Bush lost the election to Clinton because he inherited Regan's economic disaster.

she related an event that happened one night when the Reagans were having dinner. Secret Servicemen arrived to tell the President that his Vice President George H.W. Bush had just been involved in a traffic accident and that he was drunk behind the wheel and that there was a woman in his car who was not his wife. Supposedly, Reagan got the incident covered up by the D.C. police. The Reagans supposedly made fun of Bush and had a good laugh at his expense.
