Senate Appointee Roland Burris Play Video Video: Senate Showdown: Burris' Meeting In Washington CBS 2 Chicago Play Video Video: Bottom Line: Empty Senate Seats ABC News AP – Illinois U.S. Senate Appointee Roland Burris smiles as he meets with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid … WASHINGTON – Roland Burris says he expects "very shortly" to represent the state of Illinois in the U.S. Senate. The man appointed to the vacant seat by Gov. Rod Blagojevich says he expects resolution soon of the remaining issues standing in the way of his taking President-elect Barack Obama's former spot.

Earlier Wednesday, after a meeting with Burris, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Senate is waiting for a court ruling on whether the Illinois secretary of state is required to sign a certification before Burris can take office. Senate leaders are also waiting for Burris to testify Thursday before a panel of Illinois state legislators looking into the possible impeachment of Blagojevich.
