Saving The Michael Vick Dogs
This week I watched "Dogtown - Saving The Michael Vick Dogs" - Of course I was moved to anger. I was also moved to tears. http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/dogtown/3684/Overview

I trained dogs for many years and can tell you that the kennel in Utah that went to bat for these poor dogs and who selflessly took on the challenge of rehabilitating them deserve a medal.

Not very many people would be willing to aid in mending the deep psychological scars these poor creatures have had etched on their psyches.

In my opinion, Vick got off easy. These dogs were tortured by him and the people he paid to run this "enterprise."

I propose a toast to these selfless animal lovers who have stepped up to the plate to do the right thing. :toast:

1. Good, Positive Article
on Vick's dogs in last weeks Sports Illustrated. Actually it was the cover story and highlighted people who stepped forward to assist the dogs.

4. Most people heard initial report that these 'vicious' dogs would need

To be euthanised.

Boy was I ever grateful to find out about all the people that went to bat for the animals in the Vick's case.

The dogs were all tail-waggly-ty when let out of their cages under the supervision of the rescue dog handlers. They responded well to people and even to other dogs.

I was crying during that episode of Animal Planet. Only two of the many dogs had to be put down. One because he was not able to be rehabilitated, and then other dog, an older female, was so far gone healthwise that it was the only possible choice. The handler in charge of her said that she was in such sorry shape, and yet despite the injuries that she had endured for months, she tried to be sweet and grateful for all her care. The handler said she would never ever forget the dog.

6. Donations would help a wonderful organization like this. I have
watched Dogtown several times and the people who work and give their time to these animals are saints IMHO.

16. 23 months
that's his sentence - Plus he paid a fine which was designated to care for the dogs. 1 million. The kennel got part of that and in I think that the money will run out in a year.

He fucked up his life due to greed and being downright mean and stupid.

10. I watched it as well.
The dog that moved me the most was the black one who crawled on her belly in fear. It was determined that she was a bait dog, used in fighting practice. What a horror. She was finally able to walk upright after intense training and encouragement. God bless them all. I only hope that Michael Vick cannot find any neighborhood that will allow him residence or find any job. I hope he becomes a person of the street, begging for his existence. Of course, he would be shunned by street people.

17. You gotta see it!
Even though it is sad in many ways it is very moving and positive too. It shows the worst that people can be but even more importantly, it shows the best. :)

23. At this point my anger has grown more benign for Vick....
Don't get me wrong. I am revolted and disgusted by what he did.

But I will now reserve my anger for the NFL team who hires this devil.

I would have rather seen him in jail longer. But I think a more fitting punishment is him not being able to participate in football anymore.

I would have accpeted no jail time in exchange for a lifetime ban in the NFL, where he will once again be cheered on by an arena of roaring fans.....and if does as well as he's done in the past, it sickens me that people will move on and forgive the torture he inflicted on these poor creatures.
