Boehner, McConnell Demand Hearings On Obama Stimulus
Boehner, McConnell Demand Hearings On Obama Stimulus

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Republicans on Monday called for closer scrutiny of an estimated $800 billion economic stimulus package that Democrats plan to pass as soon President-elect Barack Obama is inaugurated.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued a statement saying, "A trillion-dollar spending bill would be the largest spending bill in the history of our country at a time when our national debt is already the largest in history. As a result, it will require tough scrutiny and oversight. Taxpayers, already stretched to the limit, deserve nothing less."

"This will require the consideration of alternative ideas, public congressional hearings and transparency - not a rushed, partisan take-it-or-leave-it approach... The American people should have at least a week to review ," he added.

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) is also quoted by AFP as saying in a statement, "I would ask the Democratic leadership to guarantee that such a bill will not be brought to the floor of the House unless there have been public hearings in the appropriate committees, the entire text has been available online for the American people to review for at least one week, and it includes no special-interest earmarks."

2. Sudden concern for deficits.
In other acts of hypocrisy:

"This will require the consideration of alternative ideas, public congressional hearings and transparency - not a rushed, partisan take-it-or-leave-it approach... The American people should have at least a week to review ," he added.

4. Highly ironic when you consider what the deficit looks like and
who pushed all those rethug/Bush bills through with no twinge of conscience. No hypocrisy here.

9. It's infuriating.
I can't wait for the Senate confirmations. Both sides will adopt the other sides strategies. "Up or down vote" will be completely absent from the Repug side of the aisle. No worries though, the Dems will have the phrase ready at the drop of a hat.

7. Dear Mitch and Boner,
You're more irrelevant than you were three months ago--did you forget that we have 57 Senate seats and more than 250 House seats?

on Republican side- and the equally and probably more pathetic excuses and cave ins by the Dem Congressional "leadership."

Perhaps after six to eight months of this, Harry Reid will find a graceful way to step down.

11. transparency?
" alternative ideas, public congressional hearings and transparency - not a rushed, partisan take-it-or-leave-it approach"

Alternative ideas? Congressional hearings? TRANSPARENCY!

They should be taken to court for their lack of TRANSPARENCY and REFUSAL TO HOLD OR ATTEND HEARINGS< FOR RIDICULING HEARINGS, FOR RUNNING CAMPAIGNS AGAINST HEARINGS!

The got religion now?

They pulled some dirty rotten filthy tricks by hiding things in innoucuous bills.

They are criminals and they want what?

12. Fuck you ! I don't know how to put it any nicer than that - we're in this
mess because of your stupid support of 1)tax cuts for the rich 2) shipping jobs overseas with "free trade" 3) telling us deficit spending didn't matter and 4) total support of Shrub's endless wars for oil and corporate mastery of the known universe as you enriched your friends and cronies.

You want hearings? Find a space in the basement and start investigating why Republican policies ALWAYS turn out to be the opposite of what is good for the majority of Americans and how you falsely con voters into believing the opposite.
