Rick Warren vows to never change
In a just released video, Rick Warren promised that he "will never change" his views. So much for those that said opening a dialogue would be so lovely. Rick Warren just slapped you in the face.

Rick also announces a new TV network he is starting (major help from his prominence at the inauguration). It will include outreach to help gays reject their "evil lifestyle".

2. In new video, Rick Warren accuses gays of "hateful attacks," "hate speech," "Christ-ophobia," and of
Merry Christmas from Rick Warren! You're all hateful, evil, and not even Christian!

Barack Obama's good buddy Rick Warren recorded a video yesterday, talking about the outcry over his being chosen to given the invocation at Obama's swearing in. And it's a doozie. Warren's big mouth, and apparent ego, is pretty much guaranteeing that this controversy will continue all the way up until the inauguration and beyond.

In the new video, Warren accuses gays of "hate speech," of launching "hateful attacks" against him, and he then says that gay and lesbian Americans have "Christ-ophobia," a clear effort to mock the term "homophobia." He goes on to explain that gays are "afraid of any Christian," suggesting that gay and lesbian Americans - gay and lesbian Obama voters - are not Christians. He then goes on to call gays criticizing him "evil." All this from a man who compared gay marriage to incest and pedophilia, and who explicitly bans "unrepentant gays" from his church membership.

11. So, what would be most effective against this: more hate speech? or an aggressive debate of Moral
and Theological Issues upon which the likes of RW et al stand?

They attack you? ATTACK them back in a way that WORKS!!! Attack them on their OWN territory and show everyone what f-ing hypocrits they are. Don't just do stuff that gives them more excuses to point at you and bring up BULLSHIT that doesn't have anything to do with the basic issue: YOUR Civil Rights.

3. Warren is not wise
but his foolishness is harmful to many people. Only foolish people say they "will never change". The wise person tries to see things from another's perspective, something that Warren appears unable to do.

those are just bullshit?

Can you make a FUCKING LOGICAL INFERENCE?

If Bush doesn't mention being a conservative in a video clip, is it wrong to say that Bush and Cheney creating a media network would not be an expansion of a conservative message?

EPIC FAIL.

we all should assume otherwise, he won't get very far.

Unless he wants to argue that video clips don't exist in a CONTEXT and that one should have to provide links to every other previous conclusion or proof to infinity whenever someone makes a comment.

Unless you are willing to argue that Warren isn't a conservative, anti-gay loon, then where is the said "dishonesty" in the OP.

You're just blatantly willing to lie.

Let me ask you this: why the fuck do you care so goddamn much about Rick Warren? Why do you mischaracterize him as someone who has helped the poor and PWAs?

53. So what argument remains for keeping this POS?
If the political use of anti-gay rhetoric is tied to an increase of violence against the LGBT community, and the only excuse given for Warren is "reaching across the aisle in order to open a dialogue" (which in itself is bogus since the dialogue is well underway) and Warren says "there is no dialogue to be had. I will only close it" then (a) what is the purpose of choosing Warren as prayer-leader for a non-conservative president and (b) given the initial premise, drawn from statistics, how is that not "throwing us under the bus"?

19. yes--but it could be a healing moment for him, if he can embrace it
sure, he's a scumbag--but maybe deep down there's a real Christian struggling to get out! (doubt it, but maybe...)

He has to advocate for unity at this event--and some in his congregation will believe him and accept it.

If he intrigues anyone new enough to check him out, they will discover the truth. But it's important for him to make the concession in public, I think. Despite what Rick,m or anyone, "believes" the country needs to come together. What else can he say?

I don't know. Evil is strong. But ever since Obama was elected, I want to believe that good can overcome evil, even if evil is dressed in glory. Hope so!

17. I am not gay and I don't have "christ-o-phobia"
however, I do have "christian-o-phobia" and have concluded that while I am not pagan, nor atheist, I am a self-described heathen. I like mysticism in my life but I really prefer to have it relevant to my heritage and I am not of middle eastern descent.

Christian/Muslim/even some Jewish sects seem to me to be so fanatical, intrusive and violent. Why can't people just be happy with their particular god and leave everyone else alone? In my personal travels I find the Christian types to be very judgmental and very militant and kind of nuts.

What is wrong with just not knowing what is to come after you die-- and just live with integrity and compassion today? If you do that tomorrow will take care of itself.

who makes his living out of charming folks into opening their wallets to finance his high-flying, tax-dodging, lifestyle, all-so beautifully sweat-free and work-free, might have some room to talk if it weren't for his double-wide lard ass and big mouth. All he has to do is conjure up a little hate and bigotry toward one group, make another group feel all smugly warm and speeeeeeeecial for doing so, and voilá and mirabile dictu! he can loll through life on the toil of others.

As Heinlein said, it's a lovely work, if you can stomach it.

Be warned, Rick Warren: me and a whole shitpot full of people you've lately managed to piss off are going to hound you to the end of the earth (where hopefully you'll have the decency to jump off), hollering to the tops of our lungs, pointing out at every single possible turn that your emperor is buck-ass nekkid.

You sonovabitch.
