1. If he wasn't giving the invocation at the inauguration, I'd just laugh my ass off at that transcript
Unfortunately, I can't laugh.

that Obama's giving the fundies enough rope. (Didn't mean to rhyme, I detest most poetry unless it's classy stuff involving a man from Nantucket.)

6. Rick Warren: Not just a fucking bigot... A HUGE fucking IDIOT
How come they are allowed to not believe in evolution one minute and to use it falsely against gay people the next?

creating more little church goers so they can hand over their money to him.

16. Well since the churches aren't being taxed especially
the Mega churches aren't being taxed....they basically get free money, they use the infrastructure of the towns and cities and yet they pay no taxes....

Warren has skeletons in his closet, I wonder why no reporter has gone digging?

25. Dude! Read your Bible! ....( Oh wait)
Obviously the righteous among the dinosaur co-existors were wearing the "Armor of God (TM)".

Oh. Uhhh. You wont find any thing like that in the Bible unless you're wearing your "Faith glasses(TM)"

"Faith glasses (TM)" can be purchased at the same outlets as "Armor of God (TM)".

11. One possible silver lining in all of this....
Its obvious that Obama is actually quite serious about wanting to try a correlational approach to political leadership. I'm intrigued, but he just got his first taste of how hard it will be. It's not as simply as just getting different "sides" to come together and hold hands and sing we are the world - not when one "side" has been beating the shit out of the other "side."

I hope that Obama's idealism about a correlational politic will be tempered through this fiasco with a healthy does of political sophistication. His move with Rick Warren, while I personally doubt that it was cool political calculus of an old politic type, was really ameteurish - it was like he though we were living in a Nickelodian special where the bully and the victim suddenly hear a rousing monologue from an adult figure, and decide to hug. I support a correlational apporach to politics, but it is far more complciated and delicate than a move that awkard and sophomorish.

He could have accomplish much more with the power of his words, or with other kinds of symbolism that would bridge divides without requirining a blindness to overt bigotry and stupidity.

Basically... the short version is: I hope he learned a lesson.

...back during the primaries. I'd hoped that that it was an error in judgement, and would be a learning experience....... An isolated event , a mistake, not made twice.

Apparently, It was not.

28. It *WAS* a learning experience.
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 03:42 PM by Tesha
Obama learned that he could be dead certain we'd "get over it" and
not cause any trouble because, hey, what else could we do? Vote for
McCain? "Bwah-ha-haaa!" they all laughed in the smoky back room.

Until liberals and progressives are willing to *AT LEAST ONCE*
withhold their votes from non-liberal, non-progressive
candidates, the non-liberal and non-progressive wing of
our party will never learn that they need to respect
all aspects of the party and not just their buddies the
DLC assholes.

13. Not only does he not want homosexuals to exist, he denies the existence of homosexuality
So that leaves you with -what?
What in the Saddleback Universe explains a person having sex with a person of the same gender, despite nature stacking all the inducements and benefits in favor of having sex with the opposite gender? Why, it's as plain to see as a televangelist's double chin! They made a deliberate choice to defy God's Plan: Sin for the sake of Sin!

Good God, don't people ever get tired of this stupidity? Nothing to see here, it's just the same old "Gays are committing crimes against nature and God, for no other reason than the perverse thrill of rebellion"

Fuck it I give up:
HAIL SATAN!

18. It's kind of weird how he reduces love to anatomical "parts" in collision
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 03:26 AM by kenny blankenship
There are intangible "parts" that people also have, which have to attract and fit together, and which bring people together in relationships. And if those don't click then it doesn't matter what the physical parts are shaped like.
It struck me as weird to hear him reduce people to slapping genitalia because I'm more accustomed to religious people stressing the importance of the unseen, intangible parts of a person, which they call the soul, over the meaty bits.

20. Funny how they are so focused on genitalia...

as if that should be the main focus for being in love with someone. I think even Jerry Falwell, or someone like him, admitted to watching gay porn once and then talking about how unnatural it seemed.

21. Is he really an idiot...
...or does he simply use idiocy to corral idiots in his flock? Is this trash the glue that holds his little empire together? Are the good charitable deeds they do simply the way they quiet their consciences?

22. Or to get more tax breaks and payments back to themselves?
Nothing concrete yet, but plenty of "MegaChurch Millionaire Enriching Themselves at the Public Trough" type red flags out there.

Found this

http://nogoofyzone.wordpress.com/2008/03/24/rick-and-kay-warren-and-their-acts-of-mercy-foundation/ with references to money dumped into non-profit, but some taken back out as salary for the "directors" (Rick and his wife Kay). Not a paying member of www.Guidestar.org so can't look at the Foundation's IRS for 990 - but I'd love to know how much of W's Faith Based Tax Money went into this and how it got spent.

If you go to the Saddleback, Rickwarren.com, legacypastors.com or HIVandthechurch.com (all various spin offs of Saddleback) there is no link to any financial disclosures. But there are plenty of "Resources" all attached to plenty of "Buy Now" buttons - MegaChurch is a MegaStore.
